Default Cam recomendations

I have a 99 ws6. Over the winter I would like to change the cam out. My question is. I have 1.8 crane roller rockers and hardened pushrods. I would like to keep that setup, due to the cost factor of switching back to stock ratio rocker. I know that there is some math involved with this because of the different geometry of the rocker. I was thinking something like a c5 z06 grind or something in that neiborhood. What do you guys recomend.

Other add on are ls6 intake, slp lid, slp long tubes, full 3" exhaust, 3600 vigilante converter, ported ma, 3.42 gear and a custom tune. Also car has a built 4l60e.

The goal for the car is to have strong low to mid range power and pull good up top. I would to get close to 375 to 400wrph and mid 11's on motor, without putting the car on diet.

What springs are you running? If you're wanting to keep the 1.8's then the cam will probably need to be on the smaller side & not on a aggressive lobe.. So you could do a custom cam on xe lobes or hell even a hot cam.

I have 918 springs. Which could be upgraded. I would like to be in the neiborhood of mid 5 lift or slightly bigger

for your goals...you'll want to go bigger then the ls6 cam.

better choice would be the LS1 Hotcam, which will work with your higher ratio rockers. you should end up with about .556" lift.

i would think with boltons and good tune 380-390 should be doable.

I was looking through my GM perfromance parts catalog at work and I found a LS stage 2 cam. That with 1.8 rockers would give me 583 lift intake and exhaust. With 227intake and 239 exhaust at 108 lobe serperation.

Has anyone used this cam? I can get a pretty good deal on it. I appreciate everyone's input. The more info the better.

I was wondering how bad it would be with the auto also.

Crane 224/232 .551/.551 111+3 (HR5/HR5 Lobes)
These Crane rockers teamed with these/there camshafts will be the BEST setup IMO. I have used the rockers alot, along with there camshafts and it will be a great combo.

Never heard of anyone using this cam. Seems like a little too much exhaust duration and I have never seen an LS car use a cam with a 108 lsa. That thing would chop like crazy!

Just found this one. With 1.8s, you would have .599'' lift.

Do you think comp 918's will keep up with that cam. I know they say good for 600 lift. I just don't want to have to change springs every summer. If I didn't say this before this is daily driven by my wife about 50 miles a day in the summer.

Good springs should last 30k miles. I would think those springs would be fine, don't have any first hand experience being this close to a spring's rated lift though. Give Texas Speed a call and I'm sure they'd be happy to give you their opinion.

These rockers NEED a dual valve spring to work properly/control the valve train acuratley, otherwise you run a very HI risk of valve float above 5600k. These are a variable ratio rocker and come off there seat really fast, and you will need proper valve springs (Crane #144832/#144833-16 springs) to work correctly. Any other questions related to these rockers or spring/cam selection, don't be afraid to ask. Myself, Vettenuts, and the vinci guys have plenty of experience with these rockers and other Crane components.
