Default Another Cam Question

I think I have settled on a cam for my car. It is going to be a DD. The cam is 228/228 .588/.588 112+2LSA. Does anyone know if I can get this tuned to pass emissions or not or is it too aggressive?

I think generally a 224-114 is about the most you can got to past emissions.. Not 100%positive though.

Do you have the sniffer test where you are? In MA you need to pass OBDII, meaning no error codes and the computer's emissions pass. With a tune almost any cam will pass that. If you have the sniffer test like CA I think MM98 is right.

Not true. It will be extremely difficult to get a cam with substantial overlap to pass emissions. Particular attention will have to paid to the valve events to create an emissions legal cam. It isn't hard but you may not end up with the type of power or sound you were looking for.

Which part do you think is not true:
- A 224 114lsa cam passing the sniffer smog test
- most other cams passing OBDII tests with a tune (no sniffer test)

You can get just about any car to pass an OBDII test. You can simply turn the rear O2 sensors off and deleting the AIR/EGR etc. out of the ECU so there are no SES codes.

On the sniffer test the actual exhaust must be emissions friendly or the car will not pass. Most of the mid 220's duration cams will not pass these tests. The largest cam we have sent to a customer that I know of to pass emissions in CA is a 224/228 on a 114 LSA. I haven't heard of a 228R cam passing. We haven't ever tried it to my knowledge since we don't have to pass a sniffer for our state inspections. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks!
Jon

No sniffer test here in Illinois. They just plug in and check for error codes.

In that case, you shouldn't have any problems getting the car inspected once you have it tuned! I have that cam on the shelf when you are ready!

Thanks again!
