Sup guys ! I'm looking to build a 383 with my LS1 and I had a few questions. Could I use a crank from a LS2/LQ4/LQ9 ?
I was reading on LS1.com and some guy asked about the same build but was told that its not a good idea cause there's suppose to be problems with the wrist pins, how true is that ? Couldn't I use floating pins and be OK ?
I'm going all motor and would like to get upwards of 430+whp. Any suggestions of head and cam choices ? I'm going with and LS6 intake !
Thanks all !

not sure of the crank question.
but 430rwhp with a 383 would be EASY.
a real tame cam like something in the upper 22x range, and some middle of the road heads like ported ls6 from PP.
guys make that kind of power with stock cubes and mild cam/head setups.

what do wrist pins have to do with the crank?
the only thing you might look for is information on reluctor rings, etc. i think the lq series of engines are gen 4 whereas the ls1s are gen 3.

Maybe I might save myself the trouble and money and just build the LS1 as it is if guys are getting 430+whp easily with cam and heads on stock blocks ! I was thinking .600 lift cam and a set of ported 243's along with 42lb inj. should put me way over what I want. Its for a weekend(occasional during the week) car that I don't have to smog here in Cali cause its a 67' Camaro.
430+whp is just a minimal for what I want for this car, I just thought an LS1/383 would be a little unique for this car.

Im with Johnnystock on this one, why settle for 430+ when you can get yourself a nice 408 foor not much more and settle for 500+. Is there any reason your settling on the 383, or you open for options. You can always give Texas Speed a call, and ask them your crank question.

Oh well then i say you shoot for 408, you got new school technology in the LSx assembly with old school cubic inches. Texass-Speed.com has some nice set-ups from you to choose from. I myself have been eyeing the LQ9 408s, now only if i had the cash.
