Default GMPP engine controller on L92

Does anyone know what (besides removing the VVT camshaft) is required to run the GMPP engine controller for the LS3 on a L92? Would I need to do the whole conversion...injectors, intake, throttle body?

Thanks

Nope most parts are the same, if the intake and injectors are different you can just change those parameters in teh tune. Well intake might need the airflow modeling redone, ie VVE values etc.

I have run the LS3 Controller on LS3's as well as L92 with LS3 intakes. You can run the controller on an L92 without removing the VV Phaser but it will be locked in the fully advanced position.

I have not looked at the L92 truck intake on the shelf so I don't know about the throttle body or map sensor connections.

As the person above stated you can tune the parametes with tuning software.

I use the HP Tuners to tune mine.

What intake do you want to run?

I'm not sure which intake I'll need....if the truck intake will fit, I'm willing to keep it. If not, the LS3 intake. My concern isn't so much the tuning, since the engines themselves are basically identical. I was more concerned about compatibility of the sensors, throttle body and injectors, since I don't know if they're different.

Thanks for the info about the cam. The engine would never see over 5000 rpm, so probably it would be OK in the advanced position. At about 3000 to 5000 rpm do you see much decrease in power with the cam advanced?

OK, well I can pull the L92 Intake off the shelf in the next couple of days and take a look.

I don't know the program on the cam for L92 so I can't say when they retard the it. Comp is working on a controller to run the phaser in non phaser equiped applications.

Mast Motorsports had developed a controller and cam for the L92 engines. At one point they would only sell them as crate engines. Check with Mast, maybe I am wrong or that might have changed.

All the long block sensors are the same. The 5 wire on the cam harness splits to 3 for the cam sensor and 2 for the phaser. Remove the harness and plug the cam sensor wire to the cam sensor. Remember that the OEM harness "flips" the wires from the lug to the sensor. You should be able to re pin for that.

The truck intake uses the all of the same connectors for the MAP sensor, Injectors, and Throttle body. Only difference is the MAP sensor is in the front of the intake on the LS3 and the middle on the truck.

Im running an LS7 harness on an LY6 with an L76 intake and everything snaps up. What front accessories are you running? If its the car stuff, I would definitely put on an LS3 or L76 intake while your swapping stuff.

Regarding comp's phaser etc. Comp actually used efilive to develop their new phaser cams, you just use the OEM control built into the ECU via efilive or similar.
They just make a little blocker to stop the phaser moving more than 20* max. Or you can leave it out and just keep to under 20* unless you feel like punching pistons.

Will the MAP sensor, Injectors, and TB fit the car intake? What I use will depend on the fit, but if those parts would interchange, it would make the decision much easier.

I dont think the injectors fit but Im not sure. I ended up using LS7 injectors which can be purchased for about $100.00. Remember, even though the LS3 and L76 are almost identical in performance, the L76 uses the clip in style MAP that you can use from the truck intake. If you use the LS3 intake, you need the bolt on MAP.

You will also need an LS2/LS7/L76 fuel rail.

The throttle body will bolt right on.

Running the cam in the wrong position does decrease engine output and efficiency.

The LS3 and L76 MAP sensors not only have a different mounting interface and connector, but also a different calibration(or transfer function). We can run either one.

Our M-90 Control Packages and M-90 Performance Packages are available separate from our crate engines.

Hope this helps!

did you get the L92 running with the gmpp ls3 harness. if you did, did you need to cut or splice the cam sensor wires. the l92 comes with 5 wires, did you eliminate the VVT cam also?

I haven't actually done anything. Just yesterday finally ordered a L92 crate engine (complete from throttle body to pay) from a Hummer dealer. My wife will take delivery and since I'm out of the country til October I won't be doing anything with it until then. Maybe there will be an affordable harness/controller that will run the VVT by the time I'm ready to run it. $850 for the GMPP LS3 controller I can hack, but I'm not yet ready to spend close to $2000 for the Mast setup yet.

From the dyno charts I've found comparing the VVT enabled and disabled, I can't see a lot of difference until close to 5000rpm. If that's the case, the VVT won't do anything for me, since the engine will never see over 5000 anyway. If that proves correct, I'll leave the VVT in place, run it in the default position, and ignore it. I want the best power I can get in the 3000 to 4800 rpm band and I couldn't care less about anything above that.

The truck intake is very close to having clearance issues, but I won't know until I get home to measure the actual height and see if there are any bosses or bumps that can be ground off if necessary. I hope I can use it, but if not, then the LS3 intake will be necessary.

I do plan to use the stock truck alternator mounting and serpentine setup, without the power steering. Has anybody done this? I assume an idler will be needed to replace the PS, but I'm not aware of any being sold for that.
