Default LQ9 oil pan swap

I am preparing to install an 6.0 LQ9/4L80E into a bagged 67 Chevy truck. I have an LS1 oil pan, windage tray and oil pickup that I am planning to swap in for better clearance. The truck oil is quite deep.
A few questions just about swapping the oilpan.
1. Can I do it with the 4L80E still attached? Or does the transmission need to be removed?
2. This appears to be straightforward but are there things I should watch out for?
3. As far as priming the oil pump, my machine shop recommends placing some grease on the inlet to create suction when the motor is started up.
Have any of you guys used this technique?
Comments will be appreciated
