did you pull the oil filter? That has helped me in the past, surprising how much difference it makes.

I wonder if the stepped headers are different enough in design to give problems? I just got done installing my Kooks 1-7/8" headers today (they replaced Kooks 1-3/4" headers), and I didn't have to cut anything, grind anything, or even remove the oil filter or the thing right above it. They installed exactly like the 1-3/4" versions...

For the driver's side, you have to basically turn the header 90 degrees so that the collector is facing downward. That will let you go straight up with the header, and while you are going up, you can then rotate it...mine cleared the steering linkage, oil filter, etc. doing it this way. It wouldn't have gone in any other way though...

Do you have a aftermarket K-member? I had to jack my motor up as high as I could get it, and then pull the motor mount pedestal from the k-member. BTW this is with a stock k-member, and a t56, and this is the 1 7/8" stepped to 2". It was a bitch.

the 1 7/8- 2 are only meant for aftermarket k members, i had to cutt alot of metal of my stock k + raise the engine about 6".

what size headers are these? is your car high enough off the ground? i did mine originally on a lift and it was a pain, i dont even wanna think about this install with car stands or similar.
