any ideas?
What's the prize for a correct diagnosis?

I checked my power steering fluid and although it wasnt topped off i could still see it on the dipstick, so im assuming its not that low. Im going to top it off regardless...
I think it sounds like a bad power steering pump too but the pump is on the other side of the engine. Im at school right now so i cant try anything.

I have an offer to go to the track this friday and run with some really cool cars (new zr1, a couple other f-bodies, ferraris etc). I want to go badly but i dont want to risk damaging my engine.
I went home today and popped the serp belt off to see if the noise stopped. Sure enough, no serpentine belt no high-pitched whine.
So, its got to be something on the serpentine system. A water or steering pump maby? How should i go about diagnosing a bad steering/water pump or whatever else it may be? I dont have AC. When I turned the pullies by hand i didnt hear any noise or feel any resistance.
Thanks,
SM
Obviously you listen with your ear on the other end of the wooden stick.
Or perform a test with a couple of rockers and injectors first. After listening to a couple of injectors and rockers you will discover the difference in sound between the injectors and rockers.
Place the end of the stick on the top of the valve cover approximately where each rocker is. Do the same for a couple of injectors by placing the end of the stick on each injector.
Finally perform the same test on the water and power steering pumps to determine if noise is from the water or power steering pump.
You didn't by any chance change the power steering rack recently and forget to purge it of air?
However, air in the power steering system will make the fluid look milky looking.
I didnt realize that all ls1 fbodys didnt have the power steering pump cooler. I'm new to this whole fbody thing.
