Default Gen III cam work in Gen IV?

Will a gen III cam cam work in a Gen IV engine? I am removing the VVT and changing to the LS2 front cover and cam timing gear?

Yes you can use a Gen3 cam in a Gen4. You just need to buy the timing gear with 3 bolt holes, 3 cam bolts, and you should change the brown chain tensioner to the black chain damper.

^^^Also the chain sprocket pictured above is for a 4x cam sensor which means you would have 58x reluctor wheel...with a 24x reluctor wheel you should get a 1x cam sprocket....

I kept the brown chain tensioner on my 418. Either one will work. If your engine has the brown one, keep it.

Why does everyone say to change the timing chain tensioner? I need to know before I button up the front of my car.

But I have been reading that the black one has a different bolt patter and will not bolt up to the '07+ blocks...

The black damper definately fits in the Gen 4 blocks used in 2008 & 2009 Pontiac G8-GT's.
The block itself in those has the same block casting number as an LS2.

I've read a lot of mixed info on which tensioner is better. At least the newer one adds some tension
