ATI Damper installed - doesn't look right to me, need opinions
I got my ATI Damper installed (i think) and it doesn't quite look right to me. It seems like the hub should be closer to the front seal, but i might be wrong.
I made my own install tool out of some M16x2.0 all thread rod and some nuts/washers. The hub was heated a bit in boiling water and then installed. It went on FAIRLY smooth, although took some effort. Once it got to a certain point, about where it sits now, it just stopped going on. In fact, after i removed the hub and re-installed it, i bent the all thread rod in two places so now it is "S" shaped a tad Then, per ATI instructions, i re-installed the old crank bolt and torqued it to 240 ft. lbs. I removed the bolt and then installed the new ARP bolt with some red loc-tite and torqued it to 250 ft. lbs. The pictures below show it as it sits now. I know that for 100% stock parts, the crank snout should be ~.094"-.176" (or something like that, can't recall exactly off the top of my head) recessed in the hub. I completly forgot to measure it, but i know it's within (or damn close) to those specs BUT nothing about my setup is stock. It's a Callies crank and N Motion double roller timing setup with a Melling oil pump. Can anyone verify, based on my pictures, that it is installed correctly?
thanks

Flip the pulley around?. I would think the timing marks should be on the engine side. Is the dished side of the pulley toward the engine?

That appears to be a 917277 ATI pulley like I installed. Your install looks just as mine does. The pulley appears to sit further off the engine due to the fact there is no AC provision. I measured with a dial caliper using the depth probe portion. I measured from the crank snout to the lower timing gear that the hub will seat against(A). I then measured on a flat metal table the depth of the hub(B). I subtracted A from B and that figure should be close to what you should find after the hub is installed and you measure from the hub snout to the crank snout inside it. I used a self made tool exactly like yours and I too thought it seated when it did not as I verified this with my measurements being over 100 thous off. I removed the tool in order to measure and reinstalled it and then the hub seated fully. The tool I think gets a lil bound up after a certain point and needs to be reset.

My pulley is a 917264 with the AC deleted, but I'm sure our hubs are the same. I REALLY didn't want to remove the pulley and start over, but I guess I have to if there isn't another way to verify that it is installed correctly...

Hey 2000ss my ati pulpy is sitting in the exact spot yours was at and it won't go anymore. Feels like it bottomed out but I think it's supposed to go in 1/4 inch more. What did you end up doing? I know this was YEARS Ago
