06 gto alternator pulley??

06 gto alternator pulley?? my friends alternator went out on his 06 goat.. i have a spare ls1 alternator from a 2002 transam, will it work? the only thing i see different is the pulley on the gto is really long?? but otherwise looks the same..
anyone know what alternators i can use on this rather than the 06 gto replacement?
also why is the pulley super long on it compared to the other lsx motors? its not ribbed so i have no idea what its for? cause the belt will fit on the alternator i have right now.. any one have thoughts??

well its for him, but ill ask.. i just dont know if its able to be swapped or not with another style.. he wants rid of that super big long pulley also while hes at it, if it can be delt with that is??
I want to say no because that is why I didn't use the one I have. The plug was different and it wouldn't work with the harness I have. I have a mustang with a LS2 and I used a GM harness kit.

hmm... so ill be stuck with the really long pully?? i dont care if i gotta keep the alternator the same but that pully is kinda annoying and id like a smaller one on it that doesnt pop out an extra inch! i could have intercooler or cold air pipeing going there instead! and when I mean I, im refering to him since hes telling me what to type 
Speaking from experience:
You'll need a new GTO alternator. It's as self-exciting unit with higher amperage and a different connector. You PRETTY MUCH have to stick with that pulley. I tried to install an LS1 underdrive alternator pulley and it didn't work because of the offset of the pulley seat. My alternator shop happened to find a clutchless pulley that would fit, so I might have the only GTO alternator without the clutch, and I've yet to get my car running since then to know if it causes problems.
