New Engine for my C5 !!!
New Engine for my C5 !!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am having a New Engine built for my C5.
My goal is 525-550 RWHP with 450-480 RWTQ.
Naturally Aspirated !
The car is mainly used for HPDE Road Courses & Midnight Rides to Coney Island !
Where do I start??
The car currently has Stock 3.42 gears with Hardened Shafts.
Upgrade Spec Clutch with less then 10k miles on it.
Vortex Ram CAI.
GHL Exhaust.
I think an LS3 Block is going to be the starting point.
-LS3 Block
-American Racing Headers 2"(probably).

I know there are alot of Engine Builders on here. Please chime in with advice!

Give Mike @ Rapid Motorsports a call. He will get you in the right direction. I think one of his customers has a C5 that he road races all the time. It is 427 powered if I am not mistaken though.

That sentence reminds me of days of thunder when harry is talking to Cole about the car being loose and tight and adding some wedge here and blah blah. Cole says " I'm an idiot when it comes to cars, They just put me in the car and said drive and I could drive" Not talking any crap here, But maybe poking some fun

Poke all the fun you like. But that is pretty much the same situation.
I can drive my car, I just cant diagnose any problems. Aside from the current HOLE in the Engine Block. That was pretty easy to figure out. Along with the lack of Oil and Anti-Freeze left in the motor.

If you are going to track the car you can build a engine with more performance and much better duribility than a LS7 crate engine for the same kind of $$$...a stock LS7 will have a short life span as a track engine .... plus the LS7 does not meet his stated performance goals of 550/480. Call Vengeance they can exceed your goals and meet your budget.

I would look closely at the TFS heads vs. LS7 heads. They make gobs more torque down low.
If I were to do it all over again I'd do a 427 or 440ci with TFS 225/235's FAST92/92. Much cheaper than a real LS7. My ported LS7 heads alone were over $4K. Over $1K for titanium intake valves.
LS3 block with 4" stroke crank= 416ci
LS3 block with 4.1" stroke = 427ci
LS7 block with 4" stroke= 427ci
LS7 block with 4.1" stroke= 440ci
You could have a 550-575rwhp/530-550rwtq setup that sips 91/93 octane and has great driveability and major kahones for your budget.
1 7/8" headers should be plenty BTW.
Shortblock= block/crank/rods/pistons
Longblock= shortblock + heads
