Default How to measure PTV?

Wht is the best and easyest way to measure PTV?

in another word, to measure how close the valves are, when in full opening against the piston, when the piston is @ top

You can put clay on the piston tops and bolt on an assymbled head. Bolt on the rockers for aleast 1 intake and 1 exhaust. Rotate the engine one complete cycle.Take the heads off and measure how far the valves went in to the clay .

You can also do it with a dial indicator attached to the retainer.

They also make springs just for this. You install them just like you would your normal valve springs but they are weak enough that you can push them down.

Put the engine a TDC intake or exhaust that you want to measure. Install a dial indicator in top of the valve stem and the measure how much further down the valve goes after it stops going down from the cam. There's you PTV clearance.

I use the springs from my daughters hair curlers. Inatall them then use a dial indicator set at O on the retainer or stem. Then push the valve down and read the travel on the gauge.

Incorrect, you need to check more than at TDC.

I personally use a dial indicator, solid lifter, checking spring, and an adjustable pushrod.
