Default How much power am i missing out on???

What's up guys...My current set up is slp cai,Lg 1 3/4 lt's, slp lm1 catback, vegeance stage3 cam,and fast 102 only putting 471 to the wheels in my 2009 m6 vette.I am about to put a set of tea heads on next week to hopefully hit the 500 whp mark. How much(if any) horsepower am I missing out on having 1 3/4 as opposed to 1 7/8 headers....using stock throtte body as opposed to aftermarket throttle body...And using the slp as opposed to a better cai such as a vararam...Its really nagging at me...Input would be appreciated! Thanks!

1 7/8 might be good for a good 10+rwhp, heads would yeld a good 20+rwhp I'm sure. I dont think the Vararam would be a lot better on the dyno...

U/D pulley?

stock cube motor I don't think you will see any gain from 1 3/4" tp 1 7/8".
No gain on a stock cube motor with an aftermarket tb either.
A good airbox assembly will show gains at the track not the dyno.
FWIW when I had my N/A 408 in the car I switched to 1 7/8" headers from 1 3/4" and gained zero, absolutley nothing.
I also feed my 13:1 440 with an 85mm maf and 90mm tb through a stock ported intake and I run mid 9's N/A.

If You Got A Stock TB On That FAST102 Then Your Probably Chokin Up Some Air. Try Suckin Air Through A Coffee Straw And Then Again Through A Normal One And Tell Me Which One Flows Better That Would Be One Of The First Things I Change, The TB And The MAF.

^^^doesn't matter, no more air will flow into the combustion chamber if it can't get through the heads. The heads will only flow so much. Coffee straw or not.

There is a big difference with a stock cube engine and a heavily modded stock cube engine. We are talking about a stage 3 cammed LS3 here. Plus, its a LS3 6.2l, not a 5.7 LS1. TSP came out with a thread on a lightly bolton LS1 with their new 1 7/8 and the bigger headers was putting more hp and tq than 1 3/4. Maybe the 1 3/4 LTs used was an old design put they were a very popular brand.

OP, you better search yourself some info in the dyno section and dont take the only info you want to hear and ignore info you dont wanna hear.

While tektrans knows is stuff(it seems), you might get different results. But LG headers are badass, so maybe the switch is not worth it unless going with top dollar unit like ARH/Kooks.

I'll add that there is some testing going on with the FAST 102; some say its doing good with stock TB and other say its a pain in the *** to tune with stock or 102mm TB. Either way, LS3 engine with the FAST 102 tends to show small gain for what it is...

I'm only speaking to experience on my own car. It's true you may see gains on your combo where I did not see any on mine, absolutley. FWIW I had went from the old OLD 1 3/4" Grotyanns to the 1 7/8" Kooks at that time I spoke of. Never used ARH or LG's on my car.

True But If Your Heads Arent Gettin The "Max" Amount Of Air Then Your Not Gonna Get The "Max" Power Out Of Them. Your Still Only Moving As Much Air To The Intake As The TB Will Allow. So I Would Think.... Bigger TB... More Air Going To The Intake... Which Also Mean You'll Have A More Sufficent Amount Of Air Feeding The Heads. It's Better To Have More Air In The Intake Than Not Enough I Would Think.... But I Could Be Wrong.

Hey Red,

How do you like the LG'S Super Pro lt's? I have the same 1 3/4's in transit.

I talked to Anthony @ LG and he said stay w/ 1 3/4 unless its an "all out build". Also I have read the stock heads are pretty dang good compared to past...You profile didn't say if it was a MN6 or A6. Thats pretty stout if you have an A6.

I assume an all out build would be a supercharger of some type.

If the intake tract and plenum are too big and the heads can't flow what's coming in the incoming outside air just gets deflected at the start of the intake tract, for example the airbox. The longer the stalled air remains in the tract and plenum the hotter it gets. Better to have more air than less yes but the correct amount of air is best.
I don't totally disagree with your more is better thinking. I believe and have done so on my own car that getting the most air into the airbox where (and this is the key) at the point the air enters the intake track. This keeps the airbox slightly pressurized and keeps cooler outside air in constant supply before it leaves for the motor. As the car gains speed the pressure in the airbox increases and as the rpms go up the motor can use what air it needs as you progress through your 1/4 mile run, use nice cooler outside air and not stagnant warmer air that's caught up in your plenum because it got there too early and with too much volume. I use a standard aftermarket airlid (k+n) that works with the hood nostrils and I have extra air thru 2 tracts going from my foglight holes to the bottom of the airbox.
So I do agree with you in a way, just not all the way.

Lets put it this way....Pretty dissapointed...I added the lg's with less than 200 miles on the odometer with full exhaust and cai (off road)...My tuner could barely pull 400(401) to the wheels. They advertise like 430 so i was very disapointed. I have put headers on a lot of cars and i am starting to conclude that a header is a header....Next time i am going American Racing all the way... My car is a m6 by the way....

If you log a wide open throttle run at that track and don not see at least atmospheric pressure (101.3 kpa) then your throttle body is too small for the power you are trying to make.
