Default L92 heads vs. 317 heads???

What are the differences between the l92 and the 317s (stock flow numbers, port size, and valve size)?
And what would be a better choice on a lq4 turbo set up for the street? I plan to used the 02-04 z06 cam if that makes any differenece.

Id go with the L92s. I have a set of Lingenfelter CNC LS3 heads on my S-10 and love them.

The 317s are 210cc, 2.00" valve, and flow about 250ish
The L92s are 260cc, 2.160" Valve and flow right around 312cfm.

set of LS3 heads you can get for around 900. these will have the lighter valves so you can rev to 6800 rpm without issue

LS3 heads use the lightweight intake valves. I upgraded my L92 heads to LS3 by swapping valves.

So in other words by the time you get the l92s and upgrade them with the ls3 valves you can pick up a set of ls3s?

From what I have seen most places sell the LS3 not the L92s

You can find some L92s for cheap on ebay or such and then just get the ls3 intake valve and springs of your choosing for your cam choice

Default L92's

Bang for the buck, there hard to beat for flow.

I'd like to try a set myself on my 402 but don't wanna buy another $950 FAST.

Stock cast L92's have a thin deck and that combined with 4 bolts per cylinder make it a poor choice for a turbo build.
They do flow well, with some porting my L92 flowed just over 330 cfm and I ran mid 9's N/A. Bang for buck a great head for N/A and even a bit of nitrous but not too much.
All Pro makes an L92 head, real thick deck-maybe check those out.

I had this same choice for a fairly low budget boosted build. I actually had both sets and decided to run a ported set of 317s. You don't really need that huge intake runner for a turbo car, and my choice of turbo limits my engine size to a small engine, so I figured the ported 317s would work best.

is that an assembled price? i got my L92s off ebay last fall for $530 shipped and they came with seals and a full set of L92 valves. picked up the LS3 intake valves for $180 from gmpartsdirect.

last i read, guys were getting pretty close to the same numbers (within 5-10) with a ported L76/LS3 manifold that others were getting with a ported 102.

Last time I checked I could get fully assembled LS3 heads (ls3 valves yellow springs) for ~820 without shipping. $900 is a rough estimate then you need the rockers

530 was used or brand new?

brand new 5364 (L76) castings. i just took a quick look and apparently the seller i bought from doesnt have any right now but he was running best offer auctions with 10 sets of heads pretty much all the time back around august/september of last year.

i didnt look into assembled heads when i was getting my pile of parts together because i knew i was going to need different springs and would upgrade retainers/locks as well.

Hell of a deal still.

I am going FI so I am waiting for TSP to come out with theirs before i decide on a head. Thicker deck with 6bolt is desired

MAST has LS3 type heads with a thick deck and high flow numbers. They are pricey but would likely be a great match for a boosted engine.
