Default is an ls7 worth it

im wondering if and ls7 is worth the trouble and money over an ls6, im looking to do a swap for either one and i want to supercharge it, i know ive got to do the ecu and harness, get better mounts and all that. is there a major difference in the way the block is set up going to get me more hp? i was also looking at using the l92 heads, is there any benefit to those over stock ls6 or ls7 heads?
thanks^_^

Well for 1, it has a bigger bore which = more hp. Is it worth it? Yes, more ci is better in any situation

Definitely more worth it. The LS7 has many differences over the LS6, that's why it has roughly ~500 hp vs the LS6 ~385. Not a cheap engine though

WAY cheaper to build a motor to your tastes that will have much more horsepower and torque than a stock LS7. Plus, it's more fun!!

yeah the differences arent just X price and X power, although theyre the first things we think of. The ls6 is an awesome engine, its basically a souped up ls1 though. An ls7 on the other hand has its own block, head design, dry sump system, lightweight valvetrain (like the ls6, which also has great heads for the $).

id say its not 'worth it' unless you plan on going with a full race engine and plan on seeing close to 1g, but even then, for the $ a gmpp ls7 will get you you could do a killer dry sump stroker motor from one of the sponsors here and get a lot more power and maybe some more longevity.

All comes down to what your plans are

You are looking at the wrong motor to SC in the LS7. The sleeves are too thin to handle much boost.... Why do you think the SC LS9 is 6.2 liters. The liners have a tendency to crack in extreme applications in the LS7.....

You can get plenty of power from the ls1 if your supercharging it. I am building and ls7 block to 427 c.in. It will be na and a track day engine. It is not inexpensive but is a lot less than buying a crate engine and throwing away parts.

Exactly. LS7 is perfect for high revving N/A power, with its titanium connecting rods, dry sump oiling, and forged crank. Its not, however, designed for boost. Compression ratio is 11:1, pistons are cast instead of forged, and as mentioned, the cylinder walls are very thin.

If you want to S/C your engine, LS3 is the way to go, hands down. You can get a brand new LS3 for $6K, which is a steal for 430HP that will easily take 10PSI of boost in stock form. If you want really big numbers, build a forged LS3, and then the possibilities are almost limitless.

We can build you a complete wet sump engine for the same price with more power and able to handle more abuse. Any way you want it.

^ Exactly.

Your $$ is much better spent on a 427ci engine that is built by Scoggin or HKE or numerous other qualified establishments (do your research though) The LS7 while an awesome OEM engine, has its weaknesses and the builder can put together a stronger and more powerful engine for the same $$.

i would consider your goals first, i will be the first to say that kind of power on a street car is a little silly and if i ever do it again (which im planning) i wont go that route. my street driven firebird (Blackbyrd) makes stupid power to be driven around town with no where to open it up. now if you doing a race car ls7 or custom built 427 would be great.

but if you just want more power look into an ls3 or even ls2 swap, my personal opinion

my 414 is built off a 6.0 iron block with l92 heads makes great power but

My ls7 based motor is exactly what I want. A monster torque curve from a NA motor without having to use a large cam. Something that is drivable.
