Weight reduction worth it on Street car?
I pulled my 2 12's w/ huge sub box and noticed a dramatic change in the way the car moved. It was quite heavy. I plan on keeping all/most of my interior.
I thought of removing a few other things and I wanted to know if you feel it would be worth it/make much of a difference.
Stuff I removed already/Reduced:
Lightweight flywheel, rear suspension, emissions, cats, stb, spare
Added weight:
SLP subframe connectors, nitrous bottle
Potential modifications/deletions:
!A/C
!ABS
!windshield washer (never used this once)
!front swaybar
!remove sfcs (not sure they did all that much)
Rear seats
Switch to some race seats
Relocate battery to rear
(Could go with a drag setup for wheels/tires but not for street)
Anything else you can think of that I wouldnt miss?
U could also do away with the shoulder harness seat belts and go to a single strap ( Lap belt only ) . Oh, and if U don't plan on using the Cruise control, there's an easy 5 lbs. I would not touch the front sway bar as it's nice to have on corners.... It's only ? 7 > 10 lbs.. ?
Battery relocation, by the time you add the cables and such, Ur adding weight to the car. + with a stroker, U need all the CCA's U can get.
Also ABS delete will save + - 10lbs they say.. I know the control module is heavy.
U could also eliminate the door crash bars that come in at about 8lbs each. But for a street car ?
U could also dump the Power Steering and go manual rack. Saves + - easy 10 lbs..
If you really wanna shed some weight, Peircy's Lexan back glass will save you close to 27lbs.
I still have A/C on mine and with me in it, I'm @ 3600 ( full tank n 6 1/2 qts of oil W/enlarged oil pan ) and I weigh 175. Oh, also with a Dana 60 out back and 17X11 replicas that are heavy.
Only thing I will add to mine is Spohn subframe conn. Suppose to weigh in at 13lbs ?

A/C and all of the controls and duct work behind the dash.
Radio, amp and speakers.
Front K member(Replaced)
Some small brackets and some of the front bumper brackets and foam
Rear seat and belts
Some of the rear bumper(plastic egg crate)
Air bags
Added Racing seats
Some Chromemoly and Alum. rear suspension pieces
Air pump,EGR,washer bottle
Door Bars
I can't think of the rest. I have added SFC's a roll bar, and oil coolers.
My goal was to get some of the weight off the front of the car (relocated the battery) and then tighten up the chassis. I kept the bumpers because I drive it on the street and I mounted my coolers to it in the front. I got rid of the A/C and stuff to clean up the engine compartment. It makes it much easier to work on.
I've ruined a nice car by doing all this!!!
Nothing better then pullin up besides a new Stang 5.0 n Blowing that f***** away !!! LOL..................
So what's ur camaro weigh 1lejohn ?

On the back you can remove the plastic egg crate off the fiber glass support. The plastic weighs alot more then the glass support. If you take both of them off ,the rear bumper cover will catch wind and distort out.
Some people have taken both rear pieces out and filled the area with expanding foam. I'm thinking of doing this and making a rear belly pan to help with aero drag.
