Default Heads

Searched and searched and can't make a decision on heads for my gto build. Have the fast 102 intake/ NW tb with 4" CAI (not installed yet) kooks headers, magna catback, 3:91's, 6sp with pedders suspension. Was looking at AFR line but dont know what size to get? Have been told 205 to 245 or just port my stock 243's. Any help appreciated. Looking for 450+ rwhp. Also will be getting a medium sized cam to flow with it all! Thxs

My advice to you is to talk to Tony Mamo at AFR and have him guide you on your Heads/cam

I did talk with him and he suggested the 215's, which I was already looking at. Some suggest porting the 243's. Just want a head to flow good with the 102 intake and midgrade cam of sumsort to make me some good power. Looking at 450+ rwhp on my LS2.

Too many choices. Ported 243 heads will get you 450 rwhp although the AFR 215 will probably too. AFR 215 or ported 243 heads from a reputable show with a mild cam is probably the right choice. The AFR 225, 235, 245 are for bigger displacement.

The GTOs are heavy, so you want to keep as much torque and civil idle as you can. With the 6.0 LS2, look at ported 243 heads, 220/228 duration with lift ~ .600" with a 114 to 116 duration. Or call Comp Cams or AFR for their advice.

You might take a look at the PRC 215 aftermarket casting heads. Those heads with a torquer v.3 and the supporting modifications you have should be able to meet that goal. The aftermarket casting would allow you to mill the heads and get some extra compression in the motor. I think in order to hit that kind of number with a midranged sized cam having ample compression would be important.

the TFS 225's work really good on the 6.0 gto's. We've made 520rwhp with them on a stock bottom end.

Vindicator cam and a FAST 102 is what I'd go with! On my old short block Ls1 I made 457 on a little VRX5 and as cast 220 TFS heads thru an M6 on a Mustang Dyno. You'll love it.
