help scoggin dickey(or anyone else who might know)

im building a iron block ls1 from a 08 block so i used a front cover that had the cam sensor in it. well i ordered what i thought was a ls2 sensor for the front cover and it wont fit? anyone know what i do need?

heres what the cover looks like

and heres the sensor in the cover it doesnt even make it in to the oring and the holes dont align

That looks like it may be a front cover from a FWD application.

I do not know of a way to make the cam sensor work in that position without running the FWD vehicle's PCM.

so theres no way of just using that sensor with the fbody computer? i did get the right timing chain set for the ls1

The issue is PCM is expecting the raised spot(s) to send their signal via the hall effect sensor in a certain window of time in the crank cycle. It knows if it's 180º out and adjust accordingly for the firing order and knows which cycle it's in, but that's not 180º off

Maybe someone else will have an idea, but I've never seen any way to make it work before without swapping the PCM or cover.

how hard is it to change back out once its sitting in the car. i have the balancer pulley on but the bolt isnt tight yet? any tips on changing it out?

It's as easy as pulling the balancer and swapping covers, nothing to it

well whats the easiest way to get the balancer back on i cant put a 2x4 in there and hit it with a hammer till i can get the bolt in like i did before lol
