Default Removing VVT

I am doing an LS swap into an '80 vette using an L92 pull-out. I want to use the shorter vette style water pump for space reasons and, of course, it won't fit over the vvt timing cover. My harness is generic with only the cam sensor plug and didn't plan use the phase sensor. So, what else do I need to do or parts changes are needed besides changing the timing cover to allow me to use the shorter wp??
Can the vvt cam be used/tuned w/o both sensors or is it best to go to a stock LS3 cam?
Thks for any help...direction
