Rear steam on l92 heads
The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
I did that on a 56 chevy for a friend.. I (well, he, at my suggestion) then milled his valley cover to fit a semi flattened tube down it, so it remained hidden as well.
we also did the front a little custom, but not blingy, so it looked OEM, and made it go into the waterpump. (drilled and tapped that as well)
came out very clean.
the area is where the upper radiator hose goes.
i just did a quick search and found some pics of someone else doing it:

do NOT do it like that guy did.. the throttlebody cam will hit it.
instead, take the waterpump off the engine, and drill the BACK side of that upper boss. then tap it for whatever fitting you want to use.
1. if your conversion tilts the motor at all so that the front of the engine is no longer the high point, you may need rear vents for air pocket protection.
2. if you have a max effort motor and want closer combustion chamber temps across the engine.
thats all i can think of.
really when we did it on his car, it was because of air pocket worries. the engine wasnt tilted higher in the front at all....
notice all trucks have the rears blocked... but the early LS1 cars use all 4.
do I think it causes uneven cylinder temps? yes.
do I think the temps are uneven enough to cause an issue on a normal street car? no. On a really HO engine build? maybe.
do I consider myself an expert on the subject.. no.
