Noise/difficulty turning over when turning engine over by hand?
LS3
I have my plugs, pushrods, and rockers out re-assembling after my cam change. When I crank the engine over by hand it gets hard to turn in the same two spots, it doesnt take a lot to turn over in those two spots, just not as easy as turning it over in any other position.anything to worry about?....
Also I hear a rattling noise coming from behind the engine in the same spot when i turn it over every time. It's like a exhaust rattle. Car is in neutral, M6. Almost like its coming from tranny, have no one around to listen while I turn it over.
Thanks!
Also I have a single roller JP timing set that has about 1/2" of slop, is this normal? I was told not to use tensioner....

ok I had my girlfriend turn it over by hand, from underneath the car it sounds like its coming from the bellhousing. a metallic rattling noise every now and then, any thoughts?

I have the same sound on my LS2 30k, first heard it when spraying fogging oil in the cylinders and turning it over by hand with no plugs. The engine runs fine, this is driving me crazy!!

Yeah, thats perfectly normal. Not sure exactly what it does to cause that noise, something with the clutch plate I suppose, but pretty much all LSx manual cars do it and no damage is happening.
It will be harder at times to crank the engine by hand, as various crank positions and cam positions come and go, especially if the spark plugs are still in.
Feel free to call, email, or PM anytime!

it crazy how many people have told me 1/2" is ok. the side of the chain being pulled by the crank (driver side) has no deflection, but the passenger side has the deflection.

Sounds exactly like mine, glad to know it is not going to be an issue but still very curious what exactly is making it.
