l92 into 97 camaro
i just picked up a 2011 L92 the other day. i have a 97 shell i was going to put a ls1 into but then i got this. my question is can i use the ls1 harness i have? can i use my power steering, alt, water pump off my ls1 that i have sitting here? i plan on camming it and removing the vvt if im not able to use it. i want a fast simple install as i need it done by next saturday (car show). thanks

1. can i use the ls1 harness i have? Yes but you have to use LS1 sensors and swap to a 24x reluctor wheel or run the Lingenfelter 58X - 24x conversion box but there is NO way to run VVT with a 24x OS.
2. can i use my power steering, alt, water pump off my ls1 that i have sitting here. YUP but you will need spacers for the water pump from MAST to clear the VVT solenoid, run a truck balancer, a vette tensioner, and space the PS and ALT out 3/4" from the block. If you ditch VVT then run all accessories F-body spacing.
3. i plan on camming it and removing the vvt if im not able to use it. VVT is great but it adds a lot of layers of complexity to the build and especially to the tune. Considering your tight time frame its probably best to go to a regular cam and run a matching harness/ECM from a non VVT vehicle

how do i swap the reculator wheels? also if the vvt is going to give my tuners more of a issuse then what its worth kiss it good bye lol do i just throw a normal ls timing chain cover? i was reading i have to change my lifters out?? is that true?

The VVT adds exponential effort to the tune especially on a swap due to the the BCM/TCM/ECM tos link communications and whatnot. I cant see you getting a VVT swap in a car and running inside of a week personally.
Easiest route is to do the 24x conversion and swap to a non VVT cam. You wont need to change lifters the L92 in that year does not have AFM iirc it was only used on a very small amount of them in 07. So you'll need to swap the cam, timing gear, front cover and the reluctor wheel wich is on the crank so you need to yank it out and have a new 24x pressed on. Its not very complicated to swap just labor intensive. If you want to be lazy then the Lingenfelter conversion box is plug and play but its not very heat friendly so they can be glitchy at times.

i thought it would due to a longer stroke / piston going higher o.0 am i wrong? so all i need is
ls1 timing chain cover
3 bolt cam
new cam gears/ chain
ls1 gear thats on the pully
f body oil pan
drill/tap for ls1 knock senors (still not to sure where to drill and tap at)
map ext.
knock senors ext.
ls3 adaters for ls1 plugs
im still unsure of how the map goes on the intake? isnt it usally before the maf?

I received this list of parts and part #'s from a forum member who has swaped an LS3 into his C5 so this will be what you need also.
I'm in the process of build a L92 at the moment. This should help.
12600326 LS2/LS3 front timing cover
12585673 Front crankshaft seal
12633904 Timing cover gasket
12627501 Camshaft position sensor harness
12591720 Camshaft position sensor
12599296 LS3 valley cover kit (includes seals/baffles)
12576407 Camshaft Timing Sprocket Gear GM LS1/LS2/LS6 1x
12588670 LS2 Timing Chain Damper
From RaceTronix:
LS2-CSAH-2 Cam Sensor Adapter Harness LS1-LS2 (if you dont have the cam sensor harness, you can use LS2-CSAH)

LS2-KSRH Knock Sensor Relocation Harness LS1>LS1

I did not use the ls1 cam sensor. However, I did re-use the ls6 oil pressure sensor/sending unit. You just need to make sure it fits w/ clearance to your intake manifold (it did on mine - but some others have suggested they had to trim down the boss)
Here is where to drill and tap the LS3 block to insert the LS1 knock sensors (one on each side) - Using the RED location
