I use simple green but don't leave it on the aluminum block or painted surfaces too long.

I bought a non toxic cirtus cleaner for engines at autozone. I then bought a 4 wire brush kit. My ls1 looks great now and safe on engine

Damn sure dont use purple power. I learned the hard way. Its 11.5-12.5ph corrodes aluminum quickly...and rinsing with water doesnt prevent it.

Simple green I think is a good option (9.5ph), but sure isnt as strong, for cutting gunk/grease. Luckily, when I bought my car, the only gunk was on the steering rack, so it wasnt too bad, getting everything cleaned up under there.

Im not sure, but I think a steam cleaner would by best. Itd be nice if some professional detailers would chime in.

Most of the pro detailers I know use simple green. Steam cleaning works well too but stay away from the electrical connecters.

I used to use the Engine Brite cleaner in the can while at the car wash, used to spray the engine with the hot soapy water then use a can of engine brite, let it sit while you wash the rest of the car and then rinse it off when done. Worked great on my LS2 in my trailblazer ss

Home Depot

Formula 88 degreaser. Amazing stuff. Mix it 75/25. 75% degreaser.
