Default 550-600 RWHP Crate Engine

How do I get this kind of power? I have a a fully modded LS1 and makes good #s, but it really sucks in the low RPM band. I want engine that has the power not only on the top end but the low end too. I'm guessing I need 400+ cubes.

I don't want to build, but exploring "cost effective" crate. Any thoughts on where to go? I looked at MAST, but OMG they are ridiculously expensive.

Any of the big builders should be able to get there, but they will all be around mast prices.

Livernois, LME, HKE, etc. A solid 427+ engine for that much power would probably be in the $13-15k range.

^^^Completely agree. I'm in this process now. I'm going ERL bottom, with ported LS7's and it's going to be in that range. Mast is expensive, but they come ready to plug and play, and EVERY part is top rate. From the heads to the rotating group, to the Fast intake. It's ready to put a tranny behind it and run.

I looked at some of their packages and the 427s were $19K. I honestly feel I could have a machinist build one for considerable less money. Upwards of $15K is what I thinking too.

The mast packages come with all sensors, balancer, intake, tb, ready to drop in. For just a long block oil pan to heads $13-15k would be about right assuming you can swap all your old sensors. The mast are pricey because of all the extras if you are starting with nothing.

454lsx won't make 550-600rwhp without a cam swap, and internals aren't on the same level as what you would get from other builders.

A stroked LS3 to 425 would probably be cheaper then going 427. It would give you that bottom end your current engine is lacking...

If you could build a 4xx motor yourself that saves a lot of money but if not I'm sure there's company's like Texas speed or who ever else that sells 402-427 short blocks all you'll have to do is the easier work of bolting heads on and installing the rest.

But an answer to what will make good low end power and keep going 402 with good heads will do the trick and also be alot of fun for the streets

Buy a built shortblock and put the reset together yourself. It isn't rocket science to assemble the top end.

Brian Tooley can sell you a set of TFS heads, port match the intake, and spec you a custom cam.

550rwhp+ is going to need 427ci+ and good heads. Production heads give up low/mid range power over aftermarket castings due to their massive intake ports.

Keep in mind they include a harness and ecu at the listed price on their site.. Subtract $1300ish without their ecu/harness which is a pretty damn competitive price once you start talking to other builders for a similarly spec'd turn key engine. Good rotating assembly and heads, good oil pan, balancer, intake manifold, etc.

I was recently in the same boat and after calling a few builders, the MAST really isn't a bad deal at all if you want something turn key. I was up around $16k for a turn key 416 ls3 from another builder with ported ls3 heads, not even a good head. I am going to end up going a different direction but can say the MAST becomes pretty tempting as you talk to other builders.
