Default LS7 Aluminum Intake

I was planning to use a Mast 4500 intake on an LS7 and have a strong 3000-7000 powerband for a road course car. I was told by Mast that that they sell these primarily to drag racers and I may lose a lot of torque down low. I also heard from a head porter that I need to turn 7800 to make use of that intake. What is confusing to me is that the few dyno test I found have it giving up very little down low to both a factory intake and a custom sheetmetal intake. Anyone here with real world experience, please enlighten me. Also, what does the GMPP 4150 intake flow?

I am updating this thread with a graph of a dyno test by Mast of a 440" engine using the 4500 intake. Looks strong enough down low.

I also found a comparison of the FAST intake vs Mast on a 468". Again the Mast does not give up much below torque peak. Any reason not to use it on a 427" road race engine?

If I wasn't going with a Kinsler on my build I would have used the Mast....Mine is a 454" ls3...I say go with the Mast!

I would be curious if you could do your own actual testing of a ported LS7 intake vs. the MAST what the results are.

Run as much compression as your fuel supports. I have a ported LS7 intake (427ci) with only 11.25:1 compression that runs on 91 octane. When I dump in an e85/91 blend and turn up the timing.... especially mid range.... the engine feels like it really comes alive.

A straight intake pipe going into the TB vs. one with bends adds 15-20rwhp due to less turbulence. Make sure you design your setup with this in mind.

If you want more low/midrange dump the LS7 heads and put on some TFS or AFR heads.

Are you recommending cathedral port heads?

Here's my comparison of the Mast LSX LS7 intake (690 RWHP) versus my Beck sheetmetal (680 RWHP)....as you can see, peak torque actually moved up ~400RPM to ~ 6300 RPM (of course this is with a solid roller can but small 258* intake duration)! Hope this helps

With the Beck it's a piece of cake....I need to find a 4 blade DBW TB to make the MAST LSX work properly a low RPM.

Another option for you would be a Jeff Davis intake. They make a tall and short version for different powerband options. It is a great intake that we use on most of our bigger engines with great results.

It is a little more expensive then the Mast and close to the same price as the Becks.... 100% hand made in the USA!

I don't recall exact numbers, so please don't throw rocks at me, lol

Speaking with my builder on a 447/single plane intake. He reccomended a 4150 vs a 4500. The 4150 flowed around 1000cfm and the 4500 1350. The inference was that the 4500 might be a bit lazy, but really it's a matter of the total combo. It appears you're getting great results.
