Question Ceramic coating inside of headers

I have a new set of stainless steel (probably 304) and wonder if coating the inside of these headers will be beneficial? Flow? Discoloration? other?

It probably would not hurt. I always have a thermal barrier coating applied on the mild steel headers along with the outside ceramic coating. The more heat you can keep inside the header the better.

When I went to have mine coated, they told me they don't do the inside because it hurts power

Default Ceramic Coating Stainless Headers

Curious, why would you want to coat the ID of the headers as opposed to OD or OD/ID?

Coating the ID will give you some thermal insulation, but the greater gain would come from doing the OD. Since your header tube is already smooth there is zero flow improvement. Thermally though, SS headers act like a huge heat sink so anything to reduce the radiated temps is a plus, i.e. coatings and or wrap.

"Coating the ID will give you some thermal insulation"

Exactly. That is why I do both the inside and outside. The inside coating is a different material than the outside. It looks like a piston top coating.

Stainless does not radiate heat like mild. I see very little benefit to doing both the inside and out.

I did OD and ID on mine, and love it. The engine bay does not get very hot even in our Texas summers. It also cools down enough to touch with in minutes from being shut down. Big win over all for doing both.
