Pros/Cons of this ATI balancer for my ls3 based 416
I bought this ATI early this year and since the car is now in the shop I'm wondering if it's time to put this on? It's part#917278 with a 10% UD. I put about 6000 miles a year on the car with 6-8 road race sessions max and 2-3 1/2 mile roll races.
At $500 for the install I'm just wondering what pros and cons I may see and if it's worth it over the existing stock ls 3 balancer? When tracking I typically shift at 7000 rpm and when I bought it I let them know that so they adjusted it accordingly, which I'm not sure was done,,but they asked if it was run over 6400 and said they'd do something a little different. Maybe steel vs alum?
Any input is appreciated. Thx!

$500 labor to install it.... yikes... glad I can work on my own junk.
A harmonic balancer is one of the most important parts in a motor. Stock balancers can have the rubber isolator fail and then catastrophic things can happen to the motor.
If you have it already.... and are pushing the car obviously pretty hard. Run it.
I plan to build/race LSx motors for a long time..... and have also invested in ATI products.
I assume you have rebuild the trunion bearings on your stock rocker arms? That should be next on the list if not.

The ATI balancer uses a higher durometer damping material for those that road race. I stuck with the soft one at I go to 7k but don't race all that often.
$500 is pretty steep but if the car is together it makes sense. Have to remove the rad in most cases. I have to pull mine off and back on again. Have a small leak at the front seal... Made a nice tool out off all thread, a couple nuts & washers(THICK) and a piece of fence pipe.

A spun non-keyed balancer is a common issue on a very quick accelerating engine. Happened to my 418 on a cool night when I blew the tires off in 2nd gear. I now have the ATI 10% underdrive on with the balancer KEY.
And ALLDATA calls for 4.3 hours labor to replace the balancer.
