Default Should I buy this lq4?

hey guys! I'm new the the LS engine and I have a couple questions for you.

I'm planing on building a 6.0 for my 96 Nissan pickup swap. I'm
Planning on buying a used engine to tear down and do a full build on whatever is necessary to get to where my goals for the truck.

I've got a line on an 02 lq4 with a 4l80e for 700 bucks. is there any reason why I wouldn't want that year of engine? I plan on selling the auto and going with a t56 but just want to know if the 02 will be a good platform to build from. My goals will be N/A 400 whp give or take. I'm not so much focused on the "dyno result" as I am performance and daily drivability. I want a reliable engine that is quite snappy and fun to drive.

also what are a good set of used 243/799 heads worth? found a set of 799 castings from a 2011 truck for 300 bucks locally....just wondering if I should jump on them.

Or should I just save my money and try to find a lq9 to build?

Thanks for the help!!

I've been looking at a lot of Nissan trucks on craigslist and really want to swap one of these. I've put 15k on my s10 since i built it and wanted another project. Good luck and post a lot of pics. I'm interested. That 6.0 should be fine, especially if you are gonna rebuild it. Don't bother with the LQ9.

Thanks for your response. I ended up getting it and am now doing my research on best approach to building it. Also had a look at your s10. You did a nice job with that!

I was literally in the exact same boat before my father lost a lifter in his 5.3, and I've since decided to build that engine instead.

That is a later LQ4, so it has aluminum heads and will bolt right up to the T56. I think that is a good price. Can you hear it run? Here is some background on the differences: https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...lq4-motor.html

Also, I think $300 is a great deal on those heads. I sold mine, which were in excellent shape, for $450 locally.
