Internal Waste Gate Tuning.
I have a twin turbo setup, stock cam, Turbo Smart Actuators (IWG75) and BOV, 4.8L in a pickup truck. Im not racing or going for all out performance. My goal is to make the truck fun to drive and have more grit to pull my boat.
The Tuner put a base tune on the PCM and I have yet to get the truck to the tuner. However, I currently have the 10lb spring installed and it seems like the boost doesnt come in until 2500 RPM. It would be great to lower the beginning point of the boost and I am not worried about the consiquences of lowering boost from changing the spring because I have a boost controller. Right now I have no Idea what Bar or Kps is running in the engine.
So does anyone know if changing springs will increase or delay the opening of the turbo actuators within the RPM band on a given engine? Thank you
To speed things up, there are a few options that would work, such as lighter turbine/compressor wheels (smaller or better materials). Also the bearing design plays a role. Any leaks will significantly slow things down also so being leak free is important. Trapping temperature in the exhaust by using coatings and blankets will also speed up the exhaust which will speed up the spool character. A good boost controller will have a wastegate activate pressure, which can also speed spool, it will wait till pressure is built then allow the gate access to boost pressure. The greddy profec B spec-II has this feature if you want to read up on it.
