g8 gt engine issue I need a recommendation for engines that will work with minimal changes/ issues check engine lights. The car is a heavily modded g8 gt it was a LSA conversion that is a repo. the client sold most of the engine heads in take accessories etc. I have a block oil pan dipstick ( a SHORT BLOCK) which is cracked and no timing chain cover. I can get my hands on a 2004 5.3 ls motor out of a silverdo? One mechanic says yes it will work change the cam and timing set and add a gen 4 timing sensor and corvette manifold. My other mechanic say it will not work and Ineed a gen 4 6.0 engine from a 2006 2007 escalade?
You really want a 4th gen engine. The crank sensor is the biggest problem. A gen 3 engine will have an 24X reluctor wheel and the gen 4 have a 58X wheel. You need to not only change the sensor, but pull the crank and change the wheel.
The G8 GT is a bit of an oddball with accessories. I would recommend getting a complete G8 GT engine if you want something drop it. The labor cost and tracking down parts will cost you more in the long run otherwise.
It really depends what you want to do with the car. You have lot of options, but a lot of them require changing wiring, sensors, programming. If you want more HP,it is all worth it. If you just want to get in running and sell it, probably not.
