Default LS Engine Builders

Looking for a complete LS7/427 built by a very competent builder. Who in the Houston area is the best? Also, any thoughts on the Connect and Cruise LS7/4-speed auto trans from Chevy Performance? Thanks.

If I were in Texas, without a doubt I’d use HorsePower Research. Eric is one of the most respected and sought after LS builders in the nation right now. Absolutely legit. Shoot I’m in N.Ga, with NASCAR builders all around me, and I’d still rather use HPR.
I can’t help you with the automatic tranny question...

I decided to take that venture on myself and I'm so glad I did but Late Model Engines in Houston would be my first choice.

H-Squared Racing Engines in Houston has rebuilt my engine twice (second time my upgrade). I was happy with their attention to detail and the results from the work. I drove from Austin to use them. They also worked to get me on a local engine dyno (at SAM) which was something I really wanted to do for breakin and tuning.

If it must be Houston area, I would suggest Nickens in Conroe. If McKinney isn’t too far, then I would suggest HPR.

Don't overlook Reher-Morrison Racing Engines in Arlington, TX.

Reher-Morrison did an excellent set of LS3 heads for me. When my engine was destroyed by a car their Reher-Morrison did an excellent job fixing and repairing my damaged cylinder heads. Working with Darin Morgan on a project is outstanding. My direct experience says Reher-Morrison is outstanding.

Likewise, Horsepower Research would be a top pick. Erik Koenig has an outstanding reputation with LS engines. He was an instructor at School of Automotive Machinist for several years. Later he stated HKE which was a top notch LS engine builder for many years. I had the benefit of discussing my 383 LS1 build many years ago with Erik. I view Erik as one of the very best.

Of course, the command of those in the Houston area with direct experience should probably be strongly considered.

If funds allowed HPR would be building a new 454 LS for my 91RS
