Default LS 5.3 Gen 4 Questions

I have a chance to buy a 2012 LC9 short block with 45K miles. Up to this point I've only dealt with Gen 3 LS1 engines on my restomod conversion. Questions.....does the new after market stand alone wiring harness delete the Variable valve timing VVT and the Active Fuel Management shutting down cylinder features? Also, I will need to source a E-38 ICU and I haven't decided on going manual or auto yet (building a 62 Corvette Restomod). Does the doner computer have to match what trans I use?....I believe the answer is yes.Can I run a DBW throttle body on these new aftermarket sheet metal intakes that are on Ebay? Last question...what's the best factory head to run the 5.3? Thanks in advance for your input!

I can answer the factory head question- You already have the best one on the LC9- 243/799 heads, same as what came on the LS6/LS2

i am in the same boat, ish. I have a 2008 LC9, i bought a dod delete kit, which deletes the dod/afm on the mechanical side of things, new valley cover with just o rings, new lifters and trays. I would imagine stuff will need to be turned off in the tuning as well. VVT is a similar delete setup, new timing cover and some other stuff google up some vvt kits(my lc9 didnt have vvt, just dod) the e38 is just the ecm, the 2 trucks i tore apart, one a 4l60e and the other a 6l80, the 4l60 has a seperate tcm in the engine compartment. the 6l80/90 has the tcm inside the transmission as part of the valve body, my ecm will not match the trans, but the wiring harness will, and with tuning it should all talk like its supposed to

Best to match ECM and TCM year for communication reasons if you are going auto crash box. TCM can also be stand-alone if need be.

Study up on oil pumps if you are ditching VVT and AFM on an engine that was originally equipped. At least for 6.2’s there is a big difference.

If you are doing away with VVT and DOD/AFM, you need to put a standard volume, std/high pressure pump in. The DOD/AFM/VVT oil pump pumps more volume than the system needs.

not to derale thread, but what issues come from having too much oil? what about if using a turbo?

It is way too much, so un-necessary loss of power, and un-necessary increase of oil temp.

Turbo’s don’t “flow” enough oil to make a big difference in flow volume to justify a change of oil pump capacity. All the turbo add-on’s I have studied, not one has upgraded oil pump or reported low oil pressure as a result from adding a turbo.

I would imagine most stand alone harnesses are not going to have the VVT feature, i could be wrong though. Regardless it would be in the part description if it did have it. Also a lot of the smaller custom harness shops will work with you, you could tell them what motor you're working with and add or delete anything you want. Ecu once flashed will disable VVT or DOD.

There are dozens of companies making aftermarket harnesses. They're not all going to do them the same way.
