Default Another ls3 intake comparison test

Saw this posted on Gwatney Performance's Facebook page. Didn't see it here, so I thought I'd share.

Update: They have the results on their website along with dyno graphs.

https://gwatneyperformance.com/the-ultimate-ls3-intake-manifold-dyno-shootout/

Let’s get this manifold testing underway shall we? We will compile, overlay and post very detailed data when testing is completed.

LS3. 2s
11.0 compression
SS4 NFC
Our Ported LS3 heads
PSI springs
GMPP Lifters
1 7/8 to 2” headers
Pump 93 octane

Update 1: STOCK INTAKE baseline 596@ 6600 and 535 tq @5600

Update 2: GPI PORTED/MODDED ls3 intake see day 2 below. Re ran since the engine is now broken in.

Update 3: High Ram w 92 mm Tb. 642@7300 and 511 tq@6300. High ram surpasses the plastic manifold at 6200.

Update 4: High Ram w 102 Tb. 655@7400 and 525 tq @ 6300!

Update 5: LOD w 102 TB. 658@7400 and 512@6000 Surpasses the high ram at 7200. At 8000 it’s up 21 hp from high ram. (Port alignment not good on stock heads, needs head port for good fitment)

Update 6: CID with sheer metal elbow and 92 Tb. 651@7400 and 513 tq @ 5600

Update 7: CID with 4 bbl Tb
671 @7400 and 527 tq @ 5700

Day 2! Bout to get started.
Fast with 92 mm Tb on the engine.

Update 8: FAST w 92 Tb. 611@6700 and 531tq at 5500

Update 9: FAST w 102 Tb. 625 @6700 and 538 tq at 5500

Update 10: GPI ported and modded Manifold w 92. 617 @ 6700 and 544 tq @ 5500.

Update 11: FAST Mid runner 102 Tb. 632 @ 7300 and 519 tq @ 5700.

Yup. They swapped a bigger cam in with mid 240's intake duration. I need a CID. I have a vic jr with a Holley 750 on our 415 and have run 10.04@132...the CID with a 1050 would run at least 9.80's...

This is really good data for once...properly done testing. They're spinning the thing 8000 rpm.
Really interested to see the Sniper results. Any guesses where it will slot in?

Update 11: FAST Mid runner 102 Tb. 632 @ 7300 and 519 tq @ 5700.
I'm still liking the fast 102 with the 102mm throttle body.
It made the most torque of all the intakes.
It also made good power too.
I'm betting this combo would have the strongest torque curve off idle till 6500rpm.
If this combo peaked at 6700rpm I wonder if it would hold that peak to 7000rpm.
I was also surprised it made 30hp more than the stock LS3 intake and yet still gained torque.
I'm impressed.

IF....I could get a 4500 DBW Tb, I’d already have had a CID at Tony’s getting final touches. I’ve lost a lot of sleep thinking about the CID intake. I have enough room under my hood to do whatever I want. I’ve wondered about an elbow and using my 102 tb. That 92/elbow test wasn’t what I wanted to see. Great info here, thanks for posting.

You can't fit a 102 on a stock ls3 intake

Sure you can but there's no gain so why do it when a 92mm is all it needs.

So if the intake is ported and rod-modded....there'd no change going to a 102mm TB?

That's an excellent position to be in with lots of under hood room! Having a lot of excellent possible choices definitely makes it hard to pick

Mamo'd CID intake - thinking dreaming about that set up will keep me awake too!

FWIW - Regarding the 92 mm TB vs 102 mm TB discussion, on a Fast intake w/cylinder head flow testing we did, the result was basically the same. My guess, the quantized difference in a 92 vs 102 TB with appropriate intake manifold would require careful dyno testing/track testing to find in the typical street friendly set up that shifts by 6,800 rpm. Big cubes, big cam, high rpm probably favoring the 102 TB.

This is exciting ****. Bought a CID through Gwatney yesterday because of this dyno testing.

Found some 1050's for sale that are the exact model we like to use for our drag cars.

Hopefully in a few months have it all together and running.

Did it take this to get a CID and 4500?

Come on now Spanks .......4500 kills any single big mouth TB. Think the factory intake with a 102 tb and porting would perform just as well as the 102 Fast intake. It tells u the results of a 92mm to a 102. So hp gains are just 4 the FAST intake with larger tb swap?Factory killing it vs normal runner length. If GPI offered a 102 tb package with porting. I would bet $ it would make more hp and even more tq than the FAST 102. Had it beat already after porting, now factor in more air from the 102mm.

Changing from a victor jr with a Holley 750 to CID with a 1050.

It did take this comparison to get the CID. I wanted to save up to do a twin TB hi ram, but the CID killed it everywhere and is way less money than converting to EFI. Easier too. Except for a new carb tray it all just bolts in.

Smoke just admit the FAST 102mm with the 102mm throttle body is a really good combo.
It would also have the most average torque by far.

Give me a second and I'll show you with the test listed ..... friend on YB sent me his Dyno test of the same testing fast vs ported factory intake. $900 vs $300 u Could Not tell the difference. With a quote of blue pill or red pill take your pick of the Dyno test. Was no Difference! Add to that dumb MF'ers have up to $1800 in these bs polymer intakes. Holley Sniper Or a 4500 for the $. I have a new to me used Ls7 factory intake that would like a 102 tb and porting. Not! 4500 all day everyday.
