Default Help identifying aluminum 6.0L

Hey all,

I picked up this 6.0L a few months ago. It was being sold as a TBSS complete swap (LS2). The guy started it on a skid by swapping on a carb intake. I picked it up in haste and only started looking at it recently and am discovering that it is a sort of mix/match of parts. The intake is a late truck intake (I guess like the TBSS had originally), a Silverado 2500 wiring harness and ECM with connectors that don't match the sensors I have etc ...

I'm trying to figure out if it's an LS2, L76 or L77.

From my research, the casting number should be embossed on that pocked on the back driver side of the block, but on this block, it is blank. I have looked at the engine very closely and cannot locate anything that looks like a casting number. There are other numbers, but nothing gets any hits on Google.
  • It has the blank valley cover, but it could easily have been changed, right?
  • I noticed that the 6.0L marking appears to be scribed-in rather than embossed like we usually see.
  • Does not feature the blank boss on the rear passenger side.
  • Has 243 heads, but gaskets look new, so no telling if they are the original heads, though it does not appear to have LS2 springs.

I guess my next move will be to pull the heads and see if it has flat top pistons or dished with cutouts ...

Any ideas? Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time.

That hole is left undrilled on lots of these motors for some reason. My truck's iron 5.3 is that way. Nothing unusual about that at all.

No LS has that hole drilled as it would go into a water jacket.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. That last pic is an example pic, not mine. The reason I noted it was not that I'm concerned that it isn't drilled, it's that I don't even have the boss there at all, which seems unusual. The article where I found that pic mentions that LS2 would have this blank boss. I realize it's nothing to be concerned about, I'm just trying to figure out what this engine is, and what it came out of.

Thanks,

I'd flip it over, get a Crank part number, and measure the Bore diameter to see what it is before taking things apart that would cost money to put back together.
