Default Info on this cam for my 427

Well my motor is on its way and the company that built it is very reputable and builds nothing but performance engines and has been in buiness for dam near 30 years. So after talking to various other customers and such I bought their 7.0L aluminum 427 engine with mahle -4cc forged pistons, 1.5mm powerpac ring set, callies rods, eagle crank, new GM 7.0L block, clevite H bearings durabond cam bearings, arp 2000 rod bolts, arp mains, and arp head studs. Very nice price and has a warrentee to boot. I am gunna HP tune it with 1 bar speed density, 42 pound injectors and single 340 walbro pump. I am gunna be using AFR 225 heads upgraded springs and 72cc chambers with GM MLS gaskets, LS6 intake, 1 7/8s headers probably kooks this time around, true dual exhaust, 4L60e for now then up too a built 4L65E im installing a 3200 stall, it has a moser 9in with 3.42 gears, and upgraded 1200 hp drivehaft. When i ordered the engine I asked about cams and he asked is it daily driven and I said yes, and I do take it too the track about 2-3 time sa month. I will also be spraying a 150 shot later when its broken in is what I told him. He said hes had alot of luck with an isky grind and so since hes used it alot in his engines I ordered it it got here today and the specs are 232 at 50 intake, 242 at 50 exhaust, 113 lobe sep but its only got 528 intake lift and 538 exhaust lift, I was originally looking at katechs street attack cam with 220intake and 240 ex but theirs has just over 600 lift. the springs in my heads are the upgraded AFR springs and their good too just over 600 I think but better seat pressure. I dont plan on reving any higher than 6800rpms max but will probably not even go that high. It looks like a nice cam and all but wondering what the experts here think. I know lift is not everything but just seemed low to me. duration looked pretty good I guess I could always add 1.8 rockers to it to up the lift or will this be good??? thanks for any and all help

All looks good but would probaly mill the heads abit to 69 or 70cc which with stock gaskets will put you at ~11:1, then take the cam lift to ~610 or so.

First I'm no cam expert, but that cam seems way too small for a 427ci engine. That cam might work well in stock displacement engines, but why go with AFR 225's and then kill it with such a mild cam? I would seriously look into a different cam for that engine!!

Looks like a good build except the ls6 intake part. Im hoping you mean ls7 as that will be a major bottleneck. Cam choice should be a 240+/240+ minimum with a 427 IMO.

Katech's cam is designed for LS7 style heads too.
Your heads are traditional cathedral port heads that usually have a smaller split, say up to 4* depending on how good your exhaust system is.
I think high 5xx lift would be good. LSA sounds ok to me. But I know squat

I would definitely go with LS7 heads and intake, but watch CR as their 70cc chambers, a 0.051 thick gasket and zero deck will result in CR=11.4. The exhaust port on the LS7 head benefits from minor port work allowing you to run a reasonable intake/exhaust duration split (say 6 degrees). And I agree with 98Z28MASS, a 240+/240+ cam is the way to go. I have a 427 in my '01 Z06 with a 242/248 cam.

I would call the builder and ask why he spec'ed out that cam for your engine. He didn't pull that cam out of thin air so he should have a good answer. To me it has a lot of exhaust duration and it may work well with the gas. Who know's?

One of the nicest driving 427 builds we put together

You don't need a huge cam, just need the right valve events to match the rest of your combination.

1999 C5 corvette A4
*C5R block 427 ci
*Diamond ET spec -7cc pistons
*ETP 245 heads 64cc chamber
*Ported FAST intake/LS2 TB
*kooks 1 7/8 headers
*238/244 .605/.612 114 LSA

Cam would be great for the street. It would put the power where you could use it. If the car is for the track go 242/248. If its for both, go 238/244. My 2cents. No loss either way, your gonna be happy as long as the tune is right. Have fun!
