Default Same timing chain the for 24x and 58x reluctor?

Do I have to specify which reluctor, or are the timing chains the same.

I have one for the LS1/LS6, but it does not say on the package.

Are you sure they're the same? Because the LS7 (58X reluctor) has a different front cam gear then the older LS2 versions (24x). So, really, the cam timing gear between the 24X and the 58X LS2's and LS7 aren't the same. It just depends on what his application is, and if he's got an LS2(24X) in there and he's got a timing chain for the LS1/LS6 then he definitely DOESN'T have the right timing chain because that one doesn't even have the timing marks on it.

So, jtl...
What are you putting this timing chain into? If you're putting it into an LS1/LS6, then you're fine, if you're putting it on a LS2/LS7 (cam timing sensor on the front cover) then you need a different timing chain and one for a 24X or a 58X depending on what you have.

Are you guys talking chains or gears?
The LS2 (newer LS1/6) chain fits them all. The reluctor is on back of the crank and is unrelated to the gear or chain.

I have a 24x reluctor inside a LS2 type engine, which I am running on a 98" LS1 PCM. Which I was told is correct.

Car is not running right and I am backtracking for errors:

The timing chain inside the front cover is what I'm referring too. Is there a different timing chain, could I possibly have the wrong chain? The packaging on the chain did not specify type of reluctor, only said LS1/LS6. Installed without any issues.

Next question is which PCM's run the 58x reluctors and 24x reluctors?

The chain is right.
The top cam gear should be the one from a LS2.
You should have a front cover with cam sensor plugged into an extension going back to firewall area connector for the old cam sensor which was on back of motor.
It is common for the cam sensor to be wired wrong which will make the engine pop back when starting.
The 58x reluctor is on > 05 engines as standard. You MUST use a 24x reluctor.

"pop back" meaning backfire??- YES YES, I have that. Car will struggle to start, then fire up, and idles fine for 5-10 min. then just dies (shuts off, like a stall). Does this sound familiar?

I have the adapter that I bought from SDPC that plugs to the cam sensor, back to the firewall plug. How do I check the wiring?

Reverse the plug at the firewall. It will look wrong (and is) but see if that fixes the backfire.

^^Agreed, always check that adapter. Unfortunately we've received several shipments of the harnesses with the outer two wires incorrect. Switching those two wires will cure the hard starts and popping in most cases!

OK, it worked. But not quite there yet!

Starts smoothly, no backfire, idles nicely @900rpm for about 5min, then just hiccups, stalls and shuts off, even with throttle input. I can start it again, but does the same thing, each time- runs a little shorter before it stalls. No change in fuel pressure- fp stays at 64psi even during stall. Same thing with and without IAC unplugged

Suggestions??? I am at wits end here.

My setup:
All new short and longblock LS2 402, L92 heads, L76 intake
adjustable rockers lashed correctly
98 LS1 PCM, 98 harness, 2001 coils, MAF, MAP- from previous engine
42# Bosch injectors,
Big aluminum fuel rails
aeromotive FRR adjusted to 60psi, Walbro 250 pump
Fast90 TB with IAC

One down-

You are going to have to tune it or get it tuned. The tuner should be able to do a "crank relearn" proceedure. That MAY be problem 2?

If you read this whole thread, you would now know ALL LS TIMING CHAINS ARE THE SAME. The sprockets (they're not gears) may differ, but they all use the same chain.
And you don't really need a double roller. That's small block thinking. It no longer drives a distributor and oil pump.

Two is always better than one...

Single is all you need unless you're making gobs of power. IWIS makes a good chain. You can get it through Brian Tooley Racing.

Also switch over to the LS2/LS3 chain dampener if not already.
https://briantooleyracing.com/chevro...-12588670.html

You need a cam sprocket suitable for you ECM (probably a 4x style) and with the correct bolt pattern for your cam.
