Default flywheel or starter problem?

I've been running and LS1 flywheel without a problem and then my clutch quit on me. I needed a quick fix, so I bought a ZO6 clutch and had to switch to the LS2 flywheel. The starter would squeel after the engine cranked and now the starter just spins and won't turn the motor. The pinion gear just won't seem to engage anymore.

Did the shop do something wrong during the instalation? I never heard of the flywheels being different sizes.

Should work fine, check the starter.

I'm going to try testing it tonight.

First check that bolts are both there and tight.

I learned GM had a problem with some starters not meshing properly with the flywheel, so they created a starter shim. I've ordered the part and hopefully this will cure it. My starter works, it just doesn't fit well with the new flywheel.

FYI: They have a standard and metric size shim, the metric is part # 10008053.

I saw your Firebird in HPP, that is a bitchin' bird. Made me laugh cuz I have an '05 GTO and recently also had an '88 TA and I just couldn't see my GTOs LS2 and T56 in my rickety 355TPI/700R4 powered bird.

Thanks! I get that reaction from a lot of people, lol. It's fun because I don't have any markings on the outside, so people are surprised when I pop the hood.

--------------

FYI on my starter problem: I got the shims installed finally, they're wafer thin and sold in pairs. I have the GTO starter with metric bolts, so I bought the metric shims. The holes are the right size but the spacing between the two was wrong, I had to enlarge one of them.

I installed two shims and now the starter doesn't squeel when it disengages. There was one day when the starter wouldn't engage the flywheel, so hopefully this will cure that problem as well.
