Default l92 build ?'s

alright i'm a first gen sbc guy and i like the lsx stuff and been eyeing it for some years now,but been sticking with the first gen stuff.

i really like the l92 heads and the look bad *** and i would like to build a engine using them but i am not sure what all i would need..i would be using a carb style intake though on the setup with either a carb or injection off of like a ls1 or something

so my question is what all would i need to build one.

will a lq4 block work?
do i need any certain cam?
will a stock ls1 crank work and rods?

i just really need a list..i dont know **** about them really but some of the basics..like i stated i'm a 1st gen sbc guy.

thanks for the help u guys

well I am by far not the expert around here...but let me lead you in the right direction. To utilize the DANKNESS of the L92 head, it requires atleast a 4.0 in bore. You asked if the lq4 block would work, just off the top of my head I think thats the Iron 6.0l. If thats the case, then yes these heads will work. You will need a cam made for ls-x series motors. Alot of that depends on if the motor is NA or forced induction. Also displacment and use are vital keys to finding the perfect cam for each application. Yes the stock ls1 crank and rods will work with the Iron block, you will need larger pistons for the increased bore diameter. Stock crank and rods are good to around 600 rwhp. The crank alone with aftermarket rods and pistons can handle in excess of 700rwhp+. Let me welcome you to the next generation of POWER. Seems alittle tricky at first, but all these electronics usually make things (tunning, trouble shooting) alittle easier. And the power gains vs traditional small blocks....we crap, heads + cam 5.7l ls1's PUT DOWN well over 400 rwhp. Try that in a old 350 that ain't solid roller.....good luck

thanks..i will probley find a 427 crank and use that instead..this will not be an all out engine.

cam i will come up with my own probley..i design cams right now for first gen engines..i can make plenty of power with the first gens just the lsx engines are cheaper to build in my eyes some what if done right.

my goal would be like 750-800hp on the motor alone..the heads i would buy stock then have them ported by some friends of mine.cam would be cut buy jay allen.

whats the weight of a stock 427 crank vs the 346? i do like destroked engines.

you need an '01+ set of centerbolt valvecovers and valley cover, and L76 intake or a carb intake from GMPP, the heads, a minimum 4.0" bore(though the bigger the better), and preferably more cubes to help tame the larger size of the head's intake runners though it will work on a 6.0. And yes, the LQ4/9 are iron 6.0's. If you are running a carb you will also need a distributor adapter or a stand alone ignition system to run the coils, and a fuel supply since the block doesnt come with a boss for a mechanical fuel pump.

Did I miss anything?

I'm building an iron block 427 right now with L92 heads.

yes i'm in florida..i was doing a engine and car for orsca modifeld street but my lady dont like the idea of me racing.so i'm putting that on hold for a bit and this will just be lil toy that might end up in some light weight chassis.

the orsca engine was going to be a winberg billet 3.27 stroke crank which is for sale now, bowtie block with 4.155 bore, custom sb2.2 piston an carrillo 6.125 rods,sb2.2 heads done by curtis at rfd,sb2.2 intake and a sb2.2 n2o cam i designed just for the combo..

i was looking for around 900 on motor and then was going to get a 400 shot of juice and in a 3200lb car i was shooting for 5.30s or 5.20s with the setup.
