Default l92s with carb?

so i'm doing mustang swap with a lq4 short block with l92s and its going to get a nice cam and a 950 carb with a plate system.i will be using the msd box with it.

my ? is what all will i need to get for a wiring harness and need, the engine is out of a truck so i know i will need to keep the coil packs.

will all the sensors work from that engine also..do i even need a ecm seeing how i will be using the msd controler box.

i'm a old school chevy guy and the fuel pump, fan and water pump will be all hooked up on switchs.

thanks for the help guys

Go over to the MSD's site and look at "new products". They have a PDF of the wiring and other info you are asking about. All of the required sensors are called out and the various programing options are shown. Should answer all your questions.

if your going carb, why not get the GMPP front engine cover that lets you run a distributor? Gets rid of ALOT of electronics, 8 coils, etc..

Go and get the NEW gm hipo book at the dealer... Get the distributor front cover and run it like a old small block chevy.... except the distributor is in the front like a ford.. Id run no harness, nothing

Thumbs up

IMO there are way more advantages to the Coil on plug and options the MSD box offers.

PC based adjustable curve, Timing retard, 2 step rev limiter (High and Low) trigger for N2o or T break ETC,.....

I think you will have a good combo with the Carb & plate kit with the MSD ignition controller.

Unless I read the information wrong, the offered timing curves with the MSD don't go over 26* of timing. I'd rather have the distributor with a crank trigger.

Hi Tony
I plan on the same swap for my application. I have the exact same set-up and not sure just yet whitch way to go.I like what the MSD has to offer, but the cost is also an issue. That front cover to adapt a dist. to is also a little pricey. Got to sit down and figure it all out!! Good luck with your project and keep me posted.
Plus I just checked the wire harness ext. to go to the controller is.... wow!!! 185.00
Plus the 300 for the unit = $485.00
