Default How to ID engine date?

Santa came early this year! I came across the perfect swap material for my early Nova wagon transplant....A low mile LS2. Heres the rub though. Its obviously from a GTO because it has the front sump pan (I needed that pan anyway!) but I am not sure if its a 05' or an 06' ? It doesnt have the crank sensor in it and thats really why I need to know the date so I know whether to get the 24X(black) or 58X(gray - right?) version. Was there any other changes to the LS2 between 05 and 06?

tried the search but only came up with full vin decodes...help?

Oh and I am assuming because it has the alum 6.0 block with 243 heads and a tilted tb inlet its an LS2.

oops.... I may have gotten that wrong. It seems that the cranks sensors are the same? And its the harness PLUG thats color coded to signify the ecu configuration (24 vs. 58) ....do I have that right?

Answering my own questions as I go....counted the teeth through the sensor port....24 teeth on "each" reluctor ring (why 2 by the way). So which sensor do I need ? Anyone gotta GM part #?

From what I can gather 05 & 06 GTO's all had 24x reluctor wheels.

Here's what the different wheels look like.
24x

58x

Crank sensor (black) 24x
