headers for 402 with a big shot

Default headers for 402 with a big shot

im looking to step up to a larger header on my L92 headed 402. right now it makes 505whp with 1 3/4" headers. down the road i plan on spraying a big shot, around 300 give or take.

should i go with 1 1 7/8" header, or a stepped header, or what, just want to know if something larger than 1 7/8" is worth the money for the gains.

stepped it tends to build more torque on the bottle

I would just run the 2in. Kooks striaght header. There about the same price as the 1 7/8's to 2in. stepped.

yea, George Kook and American Racing both told me that the 2" headers would be overkill for my application. And my motor is around 30 cubes bigger with alot more compression then yours and built for a 300 hit too. They recommended the 1 7/8 stepped to 2" for me. So im sure 1 7/8 or the 1 7/8 stepped would be just about right for your 402

The only people I see running the 2 inch headers are race cars. I think either the 1 7/8 or 1 7/8 stepped would work well. I'd just go with what ever you can get the best price on. If you look around in the for sale section there's a set of both that are priced rather nicely.

1 7/8" stepped to 2"
If you were NA only I would say just 1 7/8".
