Default ls3 in silverado

will an ls3 or a l92 swap over into a nnbs silverado? If so is it a direct swap? If not, what would be the way to go to upgrade? Thanks

What engine did your Silverado come with? I am also planning this kind of swap, I have the 2007 Silverado RCSB 4.8L. The LS3 would require swapping the oil pan and getting the L92 truck intake manifold and then swap over all your engine ACC.. I contacted a company that performes these kinds of swaps and I was quoted $15K and it included the engine, rebuilding your transmission to handle the extra HP, rear end gear swap from 3.23 to 3.73 with a new carrier, stall converter, exust, and dyno tunning. It would be a sleeper. I also was quoted for the LS7 and they were asking $20K including every thing.

haha...It's a truck term. NNBS stands for New New body style for the 07-08+

Then you got the 99-07 classics' term NBS(new body style)

Then the OBS(old body style) term for the 88-98 truck body style, like mine

It was for either the L92 or the LS3. I don't think I can post the name if they are not a sponser. I'll PM.

Thank You. I know my trucks but I failed out of internet lingo in the 7th grade. But honestly is that the best they could come up with? I'm thinking SHL=Single HeadLight-I know some OBS's came w/solo sealed beams but shouldn't be too confusing.

As for the swap, . Myself I'm liking the crate LS3 over L92, only $200 extra and you save lbs w/aluminum block(EDIT: I'm retarded, L92's have aluminum blocks and I must have aluminum for brain matter!). Also the LS3 has a slightly more aggresive cam that will respond big to a nice intake and exhaust while still having gobs of torque. If price is a big issue and you go used then the L92 will be had much cheaper and starving for a mild cam. BTW what type of tuning suites are hip w/the NBS/SHL trucks and which one do you plan to use?

Default ls3

from what i hear, the ls3 and l92 use the same heads but different intake. My plan right now is to order ls3 longblock and l92 intake. the fuel system and accessories are the same.......I think. so, i will be going to the dealer fri.

Sounds sweet! Post some pics when you get done because I'm trying to talk my friend into doing this in his SHL.

You have to remember that your 5.3 has the VVT system and the LS3 does not, I think in your case the L92 Truck create engine would be your best bet because the L92 does have the VVT. My 4.8 does not have the VVT so I would have to go with the LS3 if not I would have to buy a new engine harness that has the VVT wired in and regrogram my ECM to run the VVT.

How does the VVT operate on these trucks? Are you talking about DOD (Displacement On Demand) cylinder deactivation? To me VVT stands for Variable Valve Timing or at least that's what it has meant in the industry for the last 25 years. Not trrying to be a dick, I'm just tryin' to clarify.

The VVT system in trucks is used to change the cam timing and the DOD just shut off cylinders when the engine is not under a hard load. Gm made a special cam, timing cover, water pump, ect for the 2007 and up 5.3, 6.0, and the 6.2. Also the VVT has extra wiring and programming compaired to the 4.8 that does not have the VVT just like the Corvette engines.
