Default Should I upgrade my headers?

I'm currently running 1 3/4" Pacesetter LT's on my H/C/I LS1 through 3" true dual exhaust with bullet mufflers. I'm very satisfied with this setup and it's has held up well.

My new engine specs are:
402 LS2
Eagle 4.0" forged crankshaft,
Callies 6.125" forged H beam rods
Wiseco forged pistons 8cc
C&A Dura Moly rings
ETP 245 heads
244/250 .646" .646" 112 LSA
Custom Sheet-metal Intake

Is it really worth the $800+ bucks to upgrade my headers to 1 7/8"? How much horsepower will I gain and torque will I loose?

My goal is to put down 550rwhp so if new headers help me reach that I will wait to put the new engine in to save enough money for new headers.

I'd say its worth it... you've got pretty much top dollar on everything else except the crank lol. Pushing so much air, I'd say a 1 7/8" header would definately be worth it on your setup. Looks like its gonna be a monster.

Im in the same boat, and will bump this for more opinions, and maybe some dyno and/or track experiences.

Yah with those cubes I would say you can pick up a few HP from 1 7/8ths headers. Kooks has some nice stainless ones and I know hooker is making stainless now but dont know if there in that size yet.

Kooks 1 7/8" X 3". Part # 6501RHS has no emission tubes, but has an O2 bung on each hedder. I just recieved mine this week. I have a 382" w/Compstar crank and rods,(6.125"), and 3.905" bore with the coated Diamond pistons, (11.1-1). I have a Mufflex 4" pipe into a Spintech muffler w/ dual 3" tails. This system works outstanding. The hedders should really work nice on yours. I have a Nick Williams 90MM T/B w/ Fast 90MM intake. ET Perf 316-241 heads. Comp .595"-.598", 232-234@.050", 112LC, comparitively speaking. If you had to pay $1200.00, it would be worth it! I had the Dynatech 1 3/4" hedders, that did work great, but when I upgraded to the bigger cubes, the motor would not breathe. Make the call. Scoggin/Dickey had a great price and they were in stock, talk to Marty. Good luck.

Thanks for the input guys. I talked to a few other people and they all agreed with my goals it would be best to upgrade the headers, especially if I want to spray it in the future.

I have my eyes set on some American Racing headers. From what I've read they seem like a quality unit that fits and flows well.

If you're on a sheet metal intake because the motor needs it, then the header's certainly will show some gains as well.

Personally, I'm running a 13.5 to 1 compression 402, cam not all that much differnet then what you're running, and went from 1 3/4 qtp's to a set of 1 7/8 stepped to 2 inch kooks. I can't imagine it's going to hurt, then throw the 100 to 150 shot that I run on top of that, I'm sure it can only help.

I am more intrested in the intake that you're running, that's about the only thing I really have left to mess with other then going solid roller.

If its an all out race car upgrade to 1 7/8 and go with ARH. If its a street strip car and drives on the street stay with the 1 3/4. It will keep the punchy low end up. Going with the 1 7/8 will bring the low end down a little bit. All depends on what you want to do with the car.

if you do decide to upgrade you can always sell the old ones to help offset the cost. I agree with hardcore Z, it will affect your low end a little and help up top when the air really start moving, but if you're going to spray then why not?

He has a very nice size cam, huge heads and a sheetmetal intake... this car wasnt built for low end. I say go 1-7/8" and dont look back. You stand more to gain than lose.

I know I will be
