update on 454 problems!!!
I sent you a reply email last week concerning your email you sent me. I guess I can just post up here so we can discuss this thing online.
This engine was broke in, dyno tested and chassis dyno tested all here in Lubbock. The engine never had any issues of any sort until the day you called thinking the valve train was making some extra noise.
Without anyone ever checking the lifters for issues, I gladly sent you a new set of Caddy lifters to replace the set that you never even bothered to check. If you will remember correctly, the lifters were on back-order from GM so we had to wait a little bit of time to get them. During that time, you constantly drove the car even though I expressed deep concern about the problems this could cause. On top of these issues, you continued to drive the car for several days even after the new lifters arrived.
Despite these blatant oversights in the overall safety of this engine, I still replaced the lifters, custom $100 intake valve, custom retainers, and gaskets to solve the issues caused by YOU driving the car with valve train issues.
I decided that even though you blatantly disregarded my recommendations not to drive the car with possible valve train issues that I would go ahead and replace the damaged components to get the engine back on the road.
Now here we are 6 months+ (not 1 week) into the engine being installed & tuned in the GTO & you've managed to create some additional issues with the engine.
From what you told me a week or two ago the engine did not have these smoking out the breather issues until after you reassembled it following the valve train fixes.
I really don't know what could have been done to cause these issues to pop up immediately following disassembly and reassembly at your shop, but it is something that needs to be researched.
You've decided to drive the engine with suspected hurt lifters, somehow managed to cause the engine to severely smoke out the breather immediately following your reassembly, and attempted to blame a sponsor for issues beyond their control. Can you see the source of my frustration?
You specifically told me the engine smokes out the breather so bad immediately following your reassembly that you couldn't see to drive the car. This is an extremely large amount of smoke coming from a breather installed on the valve cover. How this happens immediately after reassembly is beyond me...
We've had customers install ballooned converters, assemble combos with bad p/v, even forget some of the oiling components and we helped them out every possible way we could. Our dedication to the customer will never change, but at some point guys have to take a little bit of responsibility for the actions that they choose.
With the engine being broke in, engine dyno tested, chassis dyno tested and inspected here at our shop I'm very confident that the engine should have never had any issues. An engine that makes 750 flywheel horsepower and does not smoke out the breather on the dyno does not just decide to die for any reason at all. I think we're going to find that something caused these issues to pop up if we take some time to research the things done to the engine that led up to these issues.
