Default 07 zo6 engine blew up.

We had a car come into work last week knocking. We finaly got it apart and it had a bunch of spun brgs. I think that maybe there wasn't enough oil in it? Any other ideas???
AnywayGm is warrantying and the engine is $20k. Gm wants the engine back so I can't even get the core.

Of course, they want to rebuild it and sell it as new... =) Just kidding, probably just want to investigate a 20K dollar issue.

Ouch that sucks for the owner but 20k sounds a bit high for me. I'm not completely sure about this but don't ls7 crate motors go for like 14k? If I'm right then I would think it costs GM less than 10 grand to get the customer a new one.

Here at the local Dealership a while back they had one come in with #2 Cylinder blown half-way out of the Block, the Valve Spring broke and dropped the Valve. I know a few people that work there and when it came one of the guys I know gave me a call to check it out.

Don't forget the exchange rate plus dealer labor.

Exchange rate??? Are you talking about the cost of shipping and all that? I would still be willing to bet if they did everything at cost it would be under
10 grand including shipping the parts and installing the motor. Regardless, that sucks for the owner of the Z and I hope they get everything squared away fast for him.

No, I am talking about the difference in the value of money in Canada, where the poster is from, and the USA.

just tto throw this out there... GM warranty pays 40% over dealership cost for every part that GM warranties. In some cases or most really, gm pays more for a part than a normal paying customer.

The cost of the engine is $20000 Canadian Plus labor , gm warranty pays list price. I never got my cost on it. The customer is mad cause now his car won't be #'s matching...

I would think that is why they want them back. They scrap them.

If you spin a main bearing the chances are you put enough heat into the block to kill the heat treat. They will never hold a bearing as well as a new block.

Better to get those parts off the street. I have seen guys buy junk and try to sell it as good stuff.

You would cringe if you knew how much of this junk gets pulled out of dumpsters and sold.

Beware of wierd deals

Is the vin# even stamped on our blocks anymore?

I know for older collector cars, the #'s matching thing was critical to the block, trans and body, but today? Not sure about that.

Plus what would make a 2007 Z06 collectible? Great to own, yes, collectible, not sure.

^^I honestly don't think the Vin # matches the Block anymore. If it does, that's new to me. I think it is just the Part # on the Block.

That Corvette will drop considerably in value before it goes higher.
