Default LS7 Block question..

I was under the impression through some research that I had done that with the LS7 Block you couldn't just bolt up an Oil Pump, Pickup Tube and Pan, and have it work like a normal Wet Sump setup. From what I researched the Plumbing in the Block was different.

Does anyone have any insight into this?

Can a regular Oil Pump, Puckup and Pan that matches bolt to it and function without a problem?

The oiling is exactly the same as far as the block goes. The differences are in the external parts. Wet sump components can bolt on and function normally.

I don't remember if they are compatible with DoD or not. I think they have the towers in the valley, but the holes aren't drilled.

LOL, oh yeah. Don't forget to drill for a dipstick tube.

Cool, that's nice to know. A hole is easy to drill.

I got a message that the Crank with the LS7 is different, I would be using an Eagle 4.000" Forged Crank that I have, so everything would fit good.

The snout of the LS7 crank is longer for the LS7 oil pump. But if you use a single stage oil pump, like an LS6 pump, just a standard length crank is used.

The hole for the dipstick tube isn't really easy either. It needs to be drilled at a certain angle so that the dipstick doesn't get wrapped around the crank.

It looks to me as if u could use the single stage pump and keep the stock crank as long as u use the LS7 front cover and balancer.

You'd probably have to use a LS7 crank timing gear or a custom oil pump drive.

Yes you can use the LS7 just like a regular LS2 block but you do need to drill that dipstick hole. We made a jig to get it right like KCS said.

LME wet sump LS7, fairly easy to do and no large external oil can attached to your fender wall.

It still will have good numbers.

and be fun.

The exhaust is ported, we changed the valve springs and some valves, kept the titanium valves, improved the springs Harlan Sharpe mod, Wiseco piston at 11:25 :1 CR, ATS Tri-Y1 7/8 ss header. Camotion cam, cleaned up the intake. Were using Bosch 44.5# injectors
Those injectors are a little taller so they worked well.

Looks great SS dave! Do LS1 headers work on LS7 heads? Where did you put your MAF?
Thanks

Thanks, LS1 headers work, I had Hooker Super Comps prior to the ATS headers, still got em BTW. It may require a little gasket trim, no problems. The MAF is located in the intake tube at the coupler position, you can see it in the engine photo. The numbers aren't bad esp . on a Dyno Dynamics dyno with a auto tranny that had issues, but thats racin'
