Suggest 403 cam for odd application
My requirements are for a nice, strong daily driver. No racing of any kind. I want an 800 rpm idle, perfect off-idle response, and the ability to pull cleanly from 1000rpm in sixth gear. Needs to be able to slog along in stop and roll traffic for days on end. I am willing to leave power on the table for good manners, so please be conservative with your recommendations.
403 short block from Lingenfelter, with GT-11 cam (215/231/118 lsa). Much too small for a 403 in my opinion, but it is what they recommended.
10.5:1 compression. I didn't want gas problems, and tried to leave a little room for a Maggie if I ever win the lottery.
Ported stage 2 243 heads from Patriot (2.02/1.57 - 305 cfm intake/227 cfm exhaust @.600) 64cc chambers.
Stock LS-6 intake
Stock LS-1 throttle body (78mm?)
T-56 with 3.73 rear gear. I'll guess 3500 pound car.
1.75" headers, 2.5" exhaust
LS-7 clutch
Currently at 405rwhp/415rwtq. I am certain there is more to be had while keeping the street manners that I desire.
Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

) that might be a safe approach. If it works anyone can take credit, if it doesn't, noone needs to take the blame...except you.FWIW, I am always surprised that folks who supply ported heads don't offer the best cams to go with their heads and various engine combos. They should know how their heads make power on dynos, not just their flowbench numbers. Some folks only sell a package of heads and the appropriate cam for the application.
As you have found in your searching, there are 402 combos that drive just as you want but make another hundred ponies and 75-80 more max torque than what you have. The head/manifold/cam/tune are responsible, of course, and would be expensive for you to duplicate.
I suggest you look farther than you have or at the very least pick one cam guy and go with his recommendation.

A 232/236 114+2 is what I ran in my old 383. It made 489 rwhp and had pretty good street manners.

....but i don't know anything about cams
So - if you don't know anything about cams why are you making a suggestion?
Or - do you know something about cams? What are your credentials?
Pay Patrick G his cam fee and be done with it, do it once, do it right. if you had a cookie-cutter engine in your car, you could safely copy an existing cam posted on here, but since you have a unique setup with unique intentions, you need professional help, not people like me pulling random cam specs out of thin air. what i said may have been spot on, but i'm guessing way off. either way, there is now something to discuss.
