The Warhawk block with main bearing caps is 98 pounds. The LSX is somewhere around 225 pounds. Bob

I've read in a few places that the LSX has some decent weight ontop of what a GM Iron Block weighs.

Interesting that is lighter than I thought as Worlds literature lists the block at 133lbs.

The less weight the better

133lbs for the warhawk sounds more accurate after lugging one around the shop vs. a regular LS1 (85lbs with caps) It definitely has a good bit extra beef over the GM castings.

FWIW, the LSX weighs ~250lbs with the standard 3.990" bore, 225lbs sounds about right for an LSX after a visit with the boring bar.

The weight of the LSX block is from the incredibly dense iron thats used to make the block. I read in Hot Rod a while ago that the tensile strength of the iron used to make the block is on the verge of being unmachineable.

"GM chose an extra-tough 280 kPa tensile strength block material (stock iron castings are 220-240, anything above 280 makes machining difficult), which not only helps rigidity but will also aid in bore durability. Features include 1045 billet steel 6-bolt main caps, two extra head bolts per cylinder (now six per hole), much thicker Siamesed cylinder walls and other beefy areas throughout to allow maximum head clamping integrity as well as distortion and twist resistance."

Look at me...citing sources, kinda cool?
