Cam recommendation for 6.0L TBSS

Default Cam recommendation for 6.0L TBSS

I have talked to a bunch of guys on various TBSS forums but just wanted to get some opinions from other LSx junkies.

I am going to do a cam on my 6.0L LS2 Trailblazer SS.

1. I am not doing heads at this time (don't plan on it anytime soon either) and I am sticking with stock manifolds.

2. The truck is a daily driver.

3. I would like to stay milder than a XER and wish to use single springs.

4. Current mods are a 3000stall, CAI, Tune, and E-Fans Kit. Dynoed at 340/350 before the efans and converter.

Recommendations?

TBSS Custom SI-Torque Camshaft - 214/220 .559/.564 111.5 LSA
PCM4Less TBSS Stealth Low Lift Cam - 216 / 228 .561 / .571 116 LSA

i have been researching a new cam as well since i got a wrong cam in my ls2. i can tell u that the first cam will be very disappointing. i got something similiar 214/218 559/562 111 lsa. i can tell you my numbers were not any better than you got already. the damn thing falls flat on its nose at 6000rpm and to top it all off, the 111lsa won't pass ca smog emissions. found out the hard way. so if you figure it out let me know.

just fitted a 215/231 .630/.644 118 it made 422hprw,it drives great.
it is a l98 (l92 headed,ls2)dual springs,and headers only other mods.

but I want to avoid xer + lift and ramp rates, double springs, and I am sticking with stock manifolds.

Interestingly enough, I had heard good things about that cam. The overlap is only -6, therefore it will (should) pass tailpipe here in Texas but I know CARB is different. It won't have a ton of topend, but neither does the stocker from my truck. I have heard 25+ hp and 30+tq on that cam but I do not like hearing that you had such a problem in your application. Do you have the truck intake manifold or the FAST/Vette LS2 Intake manifold... it might make a difference.

yeah the motor was purchased in your home state and was the L76 motor. the motor that went into the g8. all aluminum 6.0L with L76 intake. had to ditch the afm solenoid and swap on truck intake. then that cam was recommended to me for that motor. however that cam works really well in the g8 application with afm, not good in the truck. basically the way i understand it is that the g8 motor with afm spins to 6000 and that is it. so that cam is matched with that in mind. now i will tell you i have a rcsb, fully built 4l60 tbss 2800 stall, stock rear with limited slip and put down 349/346 numbers. however those numbers come on really low at around 3000 and pull to 6000 before it falls flat. what that means to me real world, unders 35mph you step on it smoke tires sideways and pulls like hell until about 80mph and then feels like a stock 6.0L. my buddys got a brand new stock vette and we ran a couple of times on a rolling start and got almost a full car on him immediately but never pulled him and he never gained until around 80mph then we ran out of room. soooooooo i guess what i am saying is thats its a really fun ride down low around town light to light but not really impressive up top. and now i am seein' guys with well over 400/400 with the same combo minus the cam. makes me a little envious. i am sure someone here can correct me if i am wrong on anything. let me know what you find out.

I have never seen an TBSS get 400rwhp with stock heads and manifolds.

Also, I don't really go to the track and rarely go over 80.... I have a 3k stall and this cam actually sounds pretty good... hmmm.

I'd go for a cam that's ground for low end torque in mind to get the TBSS outta the hole well with it's weight. For an outta the box cam I like the TR224 and the 228R, but for my personal rides I go with a custom grind for my mods and my goals.

Also, check out the Trucks side of LS1Tech... there's a ton of guys who've gone through what you're asking.

You'd need double springs for it but our CheaTR LS2 cam has worked well for many TBSS owners already. It is very similar to the cam mentioned above with 215/230 .629"/.595" 117LSA. Its probably the most popular cam we have for the TBSS.

I like the idea of the Cheatr cam but that intake lobe looks like LSK and that just concerns me with a daily driver for valvetrain longevity and reliability

We have customers who have had the cam for over 3 years now without problems. 20-30K miles. With a good set of springs you should be fine.

Did you have headers? What were your other mods? Low Lift or High Lift Cam? What do you think I will get with stock manifolds?

Being a daily driver a lot of lift like that just worries me (Cheatr). I don't want to have to be changing the springs every 25-30k miles

I really believe the whole high lift/spring issue is really overplayed here. I have a set of Comp 921's on my CTS-V which have been in three cars, all with .600"+ lift cams. I have our xTReme 227 cam which has .640 lift... These springs have at least 30K on them and when I tested them, they were within 5lbs of new...

I like the look of the stealth LL cam, but I would like to get a little bit of lope.

my 6.0 made nice torque with a curve that would match your converter well. Its a 228/230 .571/.573 112lsa, i believe its on XE lobes. This dyno is with an ls6 intake and headers, with stock manifolds you may actually make torque earlier then i did here.
