Default Crane Lifters - Modify Lifter Tray?

The crane lifters come with a shim to raise the lifter trays to accomodate the longer lifters. Once installed the lifter trays are above the block. They will definitely interfere with part of the head gasket (Cometic) that crosses over the lifter tray. What am I supposed to do? My cam is only a .602 lift. Do I even need to raise the trays?

The Morels are taller and I didn't need to do this. Install two and then roll the motor over by head and see if they contact the top of the tray. Push down on the lifter with a pushrod so it stays in contact with the cam lobe and use a flashlight to check for clearance inside the tray.

Or just go with link bar style lifters and get rid of the POS trays.

Do you know anyone running these for long term on the street? I have seen some state that for a street driven car they may not be reliable but it may just be internet BS.

Unfortunately I do not. I spoke with 99blancoSS about these lifters and the link bar types were always discussed as an upgrade over the standard morels. It allowed you to removed the lifter trays, which helped with oil drain back to the bottom end(wasn't that why everyone always drilled the stock trays??).

What have you heard that provided some smoke about these not living well in a street engine?

I did turn the motor over witout the shim as Vettenuts suggested and I didn't detect any interference.

thanks for the responses.

Read here a few guys have problems, but they were not specific or provided no details. Not sure if it is good information or not to be honest. It would appear to me to be a better design.

08 or 09 LS3 (stroker). The block was a take out motor (LPE) with 24 miles on it.

I had TC breaking issues with the LS6. I didn't want to cut any corners on the new motor with the easy stuff. I track the car (C5 Z06) as much as $$ allow. Last year I was able to do 17 track days. I know the lifters didn't have anything to do with the TCs breaking but I know the LS7 and caddy lifters have been problems for others.

In addition to the lifters I went with the IRL chain, the newer style TC damper, and an ATI pulley instead of the ASP I had on there. The ASP is free to a good home.

Well it would use the #144 series part number style lifters for sure.

Looks like I don't have any clearance issues without the shim. On to the next question in a new thread
